My husband and I booked a last minute trip right before Christmas to get away for the holidays. I found Jack and Karen's wonderful B&B online, and immediately began corresponding with Jack. We booked for the Bungalow, which had a gorgeous view of the ocean, an outdoor shower, and the sound of waves to rock us to sleep every night!

Karen is an amazing cook, and we had a perfect breakfast prepared for us every morning that included homemade breads (lemon poppy seed, apricot, whole wheat, etc), fresh juices from fruit she grows, and my favorite, homemade peanut butter and jams. Another favorite part of breakfast is the breathtaking view. The tree tops overlook a private cove with crystal clear water and white sands.

On our last night and for my husbands birthday, we indulged in Karen's 5 course dinner which included tomato and mango bruschetta, heart of palm soup, salad, a fresh fish course, and a homemade birthday cake! She truly went out of her way to make it special for us. We will return just for the food! Disclaimer: The mango margarita's were the best we'd ever had.

Jack is a treasure! Having lived in Costa Rica over 25 years, he is a wealth of knowledge of the country. Every day, he had suggestions of things we could do and places we could do, and was very knowledgeable about anything we needed to take with us or be prepared for. We sat for hours listening to stories about his life and travels and felt truly grateful to be there for an entire week.

San Juanillo is off the beaten path, not touristy at all-so don't go here if you are looking for shopping and a 5 start resort, but if you are looking for real, authentic Costa Rica with the best hosts you could imagine, you have to book here! We can't wait to return!

We stayed in a Bungalow that had a breathtaking view overlooking the ocean, complete with the heavenly sounds of waves, picturesque evening sunsets, and incredibly welcoming hosts, Jack and Karen Hunter. Karen greeted us on our arrival with a warm welcome and fresh squeezed limeade, while Jack took care of us head to toe in settling into our bungalow. Karen's gourmet meals were out of this world, even the breakfasts were fabulous, a true total body vacation treat for the mind, body, soul, and taste buds! Jack and Karen were incredibly helpful and accommodating during our four nights there, we recommend Tree Tops to our nearest and dearest loved ones and friends.

Room Tip: We recommend the bungalows!

What can I say!? The food was perfection. The do a fixed menu daily for breakfast lunch and dinner. Jack Hunter and Karen Hunter have been running this place for years and you can tell their heart and soul lie in it. Karen is an exquisite chef and makes an amazing pina colada.
Jack is full of wonderful stories and advice for the local area and beyond.
We had a beautiful time there and the kids loved the tree top and we love the view!

Room Tip: wonderful atmosphere

My husband and I went to the Tree Tops B&B for the five course dinner and could only call it one of the most incredible experiences in all our travels. Karen is an amazing chef and each course had us excited for the nest one to come. We definitely should have worn our eating pants! :D
The view was another spectacular dimension to make this meal so memorable. It is high up on a point and facing the ocean so the romantic nature is completely fulfilled all in one meal!
I'd reccomend anyone visiting San Juanillo to reserve one of these deliciously decadent dinners.

We booked a dinner with Jack and Karen while we were staying nearby in Ostional; it was a lovely experience. We loved the conversation and drinks on the treehouse deck with the other guests, and loved the stories that Jack shared (ask about the Prime Minister and that outdoor shower). Karen truly cooks with her heart, and although she was worried about a sick family member stateside, she was unfailingly kind and generous with her talent and time. Yes, you need a 4x4, and the roads are dangerous at night. Yes, it's pricey, but have you been in the grocery stores nearby? Those baby carrots didn't come from the minisuper, bub. My 9 year old LOVED the food, she knew ahead of time it was a grown up dinner. The quiet little fishing village of San Juanillo had a lovely, scenic beach and Karen had some great suggestions for lunch nearby. We'll be back!
