This is a hotel well worth a visit but unfortunately when we stayed it was pouring with rain combine that with the fog and our visibility was zero so no outstanding views for us which was a shame. It is a long windy narrow road to reach the hotel but I imagine the views would be spectacular on a nice day. Our room was clean, modern and nicely decorated with a nice comfy bed! Now to the bathroom, the shower was attached over the bath with a glass screen and to get to it you have to step onto a wooden stool (covered with a towel) and ease yourself in very carefully! There is no bath mat either which is very precarious especially if someone is a little unstable on their feet or elderly. I would strongly suggest management address this issue sooner rather than later. The food here I thought was plentiful and of good quality and the staff very helpful and friendly. We were warned about the extortionate prices they charge for a meal in the railway carriage so decided not to eat there and as I said the buffet meals were beautifully prepared and presented so we were happy with our decision. We did enjoy our stay here but there is not a lot to do if the weather is bad, which is not the fault of the hotel! The old factory conversion has kept a lot of its original features which adds to the charm and quirkiness of this hotel. I would recommend the Heritance - its certainly worth a visit for one or two nights.

We stayed two nights on the last leg of our long itinerary in January 2015. It was our first visit to Heritance Tea Factory, situated on a hill top some six miles from Nuwara Eliya in the central hills (up country as locals call). Picturesque yes but, quite isolated from other interesting places to see in and around Nuwara Eliya. Being on a hill top, thick fog sets in early afternoon and you cannot admire the beautiful surroundings. There is a colonial railway carriage sited adjoining converted to a 'special restaurant' where a meal for one costs you an astronomical US $ 75 which we thought was outrageous, hence nobody was seen eating there! We had breakfast and evening meals. Coincidentally or otherwise,I ended up with a very bad stomach upset the following morning which spoilt our day and as a sensible precaution,I didn't eat anything for 24 hrs. I must say that the restaurant manager was very helpful and concerned, getting the chef to speak with me. For a Sri Lankan,it was the first time I fell ill in forty years of visiting my motherland ! Our misery continued as my Welsh wife too was taken ill by the time we left for Colombo on the third day morning, reminiscent of a similar bout of nausea and upset tummy many years ago in Nuwara Eliya albeit a different location !

We spent two weeks traveling in Sri Lanka , including a few days at a close friend's wedding, we stayed some very good hotels of 4&5* -all of which were great . The HTF however was the most interesting, best presented hotel we stayed at. This place is not only set in a great surroundings of tea plants hills, but the service and food was the best we had in the entire 2 weeks of traveling in the country. The reception guys we very polite and welcoming , the welcome tea was great, the evening food was delicious , cooked by a Chinese very involved chef, but most of all the concierge Muttu was the best, we were so impressed with him. He was even kindly waiting on our room floor at the time we were known to be leaving and took our bags straight to our car. Amazing and so genuinely helpful! Great place - fantastic service !

Quite an ugly looking building from the outside as it is a former tea factory but the rooms are modern, large and well equipped- they need air con though.
Service good but very formal.
Good choice of food which was delicious.
Plenty of walks round and about but too wet whilst we were there to explore.

This hotel is well off the beaten track with challenging access road!

Very friendly and welcoming staff.

Ancient lift system was quirky as is the old colonial ambience and artifacts.

Rooms are good though we could hear the people above walking about. I guess the ones below us could hear us too! It did not detract from having a good nights' sleep though.

The buffet food in the main room was very good with a lot of choice. One of the chefs took us around the various options explaining them. The breakfast too were good.

We had one evening meal in our room which was very nice.

We took one packed breakfast which was OK to Horton Plains.

There are activities to keep you occupied such as tea picking and walking tours.

Overall a most pleasant stay in wonderful surroundings.
