From the moment we were picked up at the Lake Manyara airport to the time we were dropped at Kuro airstrip we were treated to personalized service by Geoffrey, our guide. We arrived late afternoon and Elizabeth showed us around the camp. But to call it a "camp" is ridiculous - the lodge is beautifully appointed with stunning touches (clever clay sconces in the ladies room), carved wood pieces, lamps adorned with eland horns and comfy sofas, chairs to lounge while being served drinks before dinner. It is especially magical given the view of all the animals coming to drink at the watering holes which are the center piece of the lodge. We had a great morning drive to the Little Chem Chem property and enjoyed watching the 2 lionesses with their 7 cubs playing in the bushes. Morning bush breakfast while viewing the morning waterhole break for the herd of elephants sharing the pool with zebra, impala, giraffes, cranes, and wildebeest was a sight to behold. The tents are gorgeous- large bedroom area with a huge bathroom and lovely lanai for an afternoon nap. Service in the lodge is top notch and the sundowner experience not to be missed. Kelly and her team do a superb job of making each guest feel welcome and well tended. George took excellent care of us as well as showing us the monitor lizard in the tree behind us! Hats off to Geoffrey for the final farewell drive when he sighted both a group of four cheetahs and then the tip of a leopard tail which led to the best leopard photos ever! We would highly recommend this lodge for a different Tanzania experience because it offers the best of both Manyara and Tarangire in exceptional comfort and style.

Thank you for the beautiful account of your stay with us, we are genuinely speechless reading about the incredible wildlife experiences you had, nothing was left out!

We are flattered to hear how well you were looked after by, namely Kelly, Elizabeth, George and Geoffrey who we shall pass your lovely comments onto.

The detailed description of some of our decor is very well elaborated, we are glad to see that you appreciatively noted so well the details and design from thoughts that metamorphosed into creating Chem Chem's interior.

Warmest wishes from the entire Chem Chem team

We arrived at Kuro Airstrip from Arusha in the morning. Instead of going to the lodge we started our first game drive in the Tarangire National Park. We had an amazing time. In the park, we encountered a large number of wildlife, including a leopard sleeping in tree, one young lioness’ two attempts to hunt…. We arrived at Chem Chem in the afternoon and were met by the manager and our butler with drinks and towels.

The lodge is beautiful and our tent is well appointed. The tent has an indoor bathtub and an outdoor shower but for us, an indoor shower would work better. Meals were always delicious and every night a private table will be setup at different area of the lodge. The bush breakfast and sundowner were the best we ever had. Services provided by the manager, the general staffs, the butler and the guide (who is really fun to be with) were all excellent. The lodge has two watering holes just in front of the main area and we found many animals there in the morning or late in the afternoon. We enjoyed all of the game drives especially when you can get really close to the wildlife without seeing them running away. We also saw lions eating their kill, very close to the camp, on our way back from the sundowner. A game drive to the “natural” watering hole near Little Chem Chem is not to be missed.

We spent one morning with a Masai warrior, visited a Masai family and a local school supported by Chem Chem Foundation. We had a great time and couldn’t really believe our ears when the chief told us that he has four wives and 22 children.

Chem Chem lodge is a great choice in the area and we look forward to returning again.

From the moment we arrived after being greeted with a cold refreshing iced tea by the manager, Kara and Abbas who would be our "butler" during our stay we sensed that we were at a very special place. The main camp lodge was straight out of central casting. Thatched roof, native wood highlights throughout even a stone and wood backed full bar.
All this was a prelude to what was to be our "tent". While theoretically we were in "the bush", this "tent" would not have been out of place in any Four Season or Ritz Carlton hotel suite. Extravagantly comfortably furnished with a king bed, writing desk, comfortable lounging chair, ample closet space and a fully equipped outdoor, yet secluded, shower. One cannot do justice to just how beautiful this is...it must be seen to be believed. Since we were on safari, I would be remiss if I didn't note that the "tent" was screened but open on one side allowing for a view onto the plains surrounding the Camp where we could view much of the vibrant animal life from our bed.or lounge chair...zebras, elephants, giraffe were seen and heard.Three meals a day, two at Camp and one usually during a game drive were not only plentiful but beautifully presented at times convenient for us. As with all the programs, everything was arranged for the just the two of us. No shared land cruisers, or meals, which were served at different locales around the camp or in the bush. The menus would fit in at any American or Continental restaurant. Special attention was always given to my wife's special dietary needs. Our first "sundowner" was held on the shores of a lake and cannot be described by any word other than "Incredible". Since I suspect others would be treated to this unique surprise event, I refrain from further describing this once in a life time experience. Abbas was always available to follow up on special requests e.g., a gin and tonic with some snack sent our tent before dinner, etc. The drives and bush walks with OUR OWN guide and tracker always "delivered" great animal sightings but also provided us with an incredible amount of information about animal behavior and bird identification (my birder wife's great interest.) While this was the first stop on our first safari we were smitten by the stay at Chem Chem and hope to return again in the not-too-distant future. I am confident that any visitor will share my views on this extraordinary place.

This was our last lodge/camp on our 3 week Safari adventure! This is a lodge that is beyond one's imagination for creating memories! We had a magnificent room with each detail perfect! We were so warmly greeting by the staff and camp manager, Kara. The staff never ceased to pay attention to making our stay memorable. Abbas, was our server and he always was thinking about how to make each meal...especially dinner special. They have numerous settings that are unique for dinners. On the ground adjacent to a watering hole where lions also roam at night. This dinner sparkled with the candles and the night sky. Without hesitation, the food at Chem Chem was supreme! Interesting and creative. We had a walk with the conservationist around the Elephant watering hole that was fantastic. Kara was always available to help us plan our days activities. We Absolutely loved this Lodge and we always hold it in our memories!!

Absolutely the best place in the world to end our safari and celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary; it could not have been any better. The room was wonderful with a king bed, ensuite bathroom, and a view of giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, and warthogs up close along with monkeys all over. The camp setting was beautiful and the host Kelly, staff (loved Jamu our butler), personal guide Francisco and our Maasai warrior were wonderful. The food was delicious and our meals were always at a private table set in great location with a view of animals and personal attention from our butler Jamu who was so nice and funny; we thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Francisco, our guide was great and we saw all the animals we wanted and also were able to visit a Maasai school and interact with the children. On our last evening, Kelly (although Francisco our guide took credit LOL) arranged for a very special surprise sundowner to celebrate out where we had a view of the lake and could watch the sun go down, with champagne and rose petals all over. This was an amazing way to end our safari and we thank Kelly and everyone at Chem Chem for the experience we will never forget.
