For our honeymoon, we wanted to escape the loud, busyness of Orlando, where we live. We wanted to be guests, not tourists. We desired a quiet, peaceful, and mind-blowingly beautiful place to experience God's creation and our new matrimony; and we found it here.
"Mountain Hideaway" is probably no different than the current 4 cabins the dot the hill above it, and this is encouraging - what we experienced is probably available there, too. The cabins are a comfortable 11 miles from the insanity of Gatlinburg, but nearby a number of small local places to eat, shop, hike, raft, and meet the locals who will smile when you declare how "cheap" their services are. And then they will kindly reply, "Not cheap: inexpensive."
Every morning, my new bride and I brewed coffee, cooked breakfast, and read in peace out on the heavenly balcony, enjoying the smoke slowly creep over the mountains. Or we sat in the hot tub at night while listening to the surprisingly loud throb of crickets and treefrogs in the mostly unspoiled National Park. Watching movies on the entertainment center was a treat, and we even brought our Wii to play (and we've since been tempted to invest in a similar widescreen TV!).
The amenities are both obvious and subtle, but they all make a stay at "Mountain Hideaway" luxurious. The gas grill, walk-in shower, jacuzzi, and balconies were obvious hits; but little things will make your stay even better. Every light switch (and there are a lot of them) is labeled, making the place feel like home instantly. Items such as the entertainment center, grill, hot tub, sauna, and even the remote controls for the televisions come with instructions so that you become a pro immediately. There are dishes and cooking utensils to make almost any meal, and a dishwasher to do the cleaning for you. Heaven is in the details here.
