This park is my church. I drop down via the Cougar Creek Trail and then do a loop around the turtle pond averaging a 5 mile work out. This park will take you through soaring pines, rushing water, lush grasslands, marsh, wild flowers, and a beautiful pond. There are herons, eagles, osprey, ducks, turtles, the occasional nutria, and a pack of coyotes that call this beautiful place home. Right in the middle of the city I can feel like I've been to the forest and estuary for much needed body and soul healing. Love this place! Folks bring your dogs, kids, bikes, picnics, friends and lovers. This spot is never sketchy or creepy (accept if you have small dogs and the coyotes are yip-yoweling), even the bands of marauding teenagers are pleasant to encounter. My only suggestion would be more garbage cans along the walkway. **People! Don't put your dog poop in a plastic bag and then toss it on the side of the path...gross! Better to let your dog just do it's thing in the grass and walk on. Sheesh.
Anyway, a truly, madly deeply and amazing space.
