This is the oldest neighborhood in the northwest. We are fortunate that it hasn't been commercialized. Parking is free for two hours so you can walk, look and dream of the past.

They are making rapid progress in restoring the Fort. We just visited the newly restored Artillery Barracks to view a tapestry on the history of Vancouver. They are rapidly restoring the many buildings, and the newly restored Visitor Center may say which buildings are open. The Grant House is good lunch or dinner--always a treat. See the section of the original log construction. The Marshall House is usually open with a good docent tour.

Full of history and very interesting. We loved the Victorian architecture and the old fort. Plus, the General Marshall house and Grants house were very cool!

The houses are so pretty. Each house has a plaque in front detailing a part of history. There is a tour if the Marshall House and you can eat at the Grant house.

This beautiful building is the place for a wedding reception or special event. It is furnished with beautiful antiques inside and has large picture windows that show a lovely view of the surrounding area. There is plenty of seating inside the house, and plenty of space outside on the veranda for tables and chairs when the weather is nice, as well. The outside yard is always well kept, with large grassy areas for seating outside, and across the street is a large gazebo that is perfect for taking photographs, and can be rented in advance. A good sized kitchen in the back of the house is adequate for food preparation and storage, if a professional caterer is used. For smaller parties there is room for dancing, and a (small) band or a D.J. can set up there, as well. The house is open for tours during the week, as it is a very well kept historical site and museum.
