While attending the Baltimore Heritage 2017 Awards Celebration in Lexington Market, we were happy to have the chance to taste something from Faidley’s Seafood. This is a family owned and operated business that started in 1886. They have been in the Lexington Market for well over 100 years. We got the chance to talk with Damye, who was so nice and helpful. Faidley’s is probably best known for their crab cakes. The area is divided into the fresh fish side, the raw bar, and the fried side. The fresh side sells all kinds of fresh fish. The raw bar sells beer, oysters, and clams. The fried fish side is everything fried. The area is not fancy. There are no tables where you can sit down. Instead, there are only tall communal tables. They served us delectable crab balls and deviled eggs. The crab balls were plump and seasoned perfectly.

It's best you come here when it's not busy and with a friend whose been here before or you'll be out of place at the pace and operations of ordering. It's more chaotic than a dampa seafood barn in Asia. Service borders on rude to crude to juvenile if you don't know what you're doing. The food is good and fresh. It's a dining experience. I won't come again because for $5 more you can get table service and just as good of food a few blocks away. Visit it once to get the memory. Cross Street Market is a little more civilized and welcoming.

If you are a visitor to Baltimore like we were, do not seek out this place just for a crabcake. We had plenty of crabcakes in Baltimore...they were all excellent. We walked to this place from the Holiday Inn Inner Harbor. Thank goodness it was daytime and we were in a group. I would not want to venture there by myself or in the evening, Paying $25 for a platter with one yummy crabcake, mac n cheese, and fries on a paper plate only to have to stand to eat it....SO NOT WORTH IT. Go sit down somewhere else and savor every bite of your crabcake. Don't waste your time or money here. If this place was in a good neighborhood and you could sit down I would have rated it much higher.

If you can get through the streets of Baltimore and safely get to this place, you will find it somewhat unique. You wait in a long line to order and can see the owner making crab cakes. There really is no place to sit and you have to stand and eat. You will find all kinds of people there and all kinds of food in the market. We had crab cakes and they were good, but not like the ones we had the night before at Jimmy's seafood. The cost was about the same. This market does not compare to the one in Philadelphia or Boston and you feel a lot safer at those markets. The visit was ok, but would not go back again. You can find crab cakes at many other places that are as good.

Only the very best crab cakes in the state!
A little hot inside, you stand to eat, and the area is a little sketchy, but it is worth it!!!!
I would not have felt safe in the area after dark, but it is a must do during the day!
Crab cakes, pickled beets, Cole slaw, Mac and cheese were to die for!
