Pros:
+gorgeous view from penthouse floors
+en suite laundry - washing machine and dryer in your unit!
+high end Bulgari soaps
+large Smart TVs with easy Netflix capabilities
+very clean
+modern, bright
+Nespresso machines
+helpful front desk personnel

Cons-
+low bed- the bed utilizes a platform (rather than box spring model) and is sooo low to the ground. As some with lower back issues, it was very hard to get in and out of.
+studio set up - bedroom and bathroom do not have any windows. However, that's just the design!

For our Philadelphia stay over Memorial Day (June 26-30, 2017) we selected AKA University City. What a great choice it was. The hotel is a new facility and while as in any initial endeavor minor things are being worked out, it is immaculate, impressive, and modern. Situated on the upper 15 or so floors of an elegant high rise adjoining the Schuylkill River and its parks, the rooms command vistas of the nearby Penn campus and the city in the distance. The lobby and reception area is understated with the feeling of privacy and personal attention. This isn't the 2000 person cruise ship with waterfall and piano. It is the simple and unobtrusive approach where you're at home and they are in the background, ready as needed. Never had the feeling of competing for service.

Our quiet accommodations on the 38th floor placed us far above city sounds but gave us as much visual entertainment from couch or bed as we could absorb. The space itself, with living room/dining/kitchen (fully equipped), master king bedroom, large bath room, and areas for storage and W/D, made us feel like we were supposed to stay for a month or more. All the appointments were first class as was the helpful staff. A highlight of the amenities was the fitness center and and pool a few floors down from us. Both were cavernous and afforded those same spectacular views while exercising. Again, first class--and no sense of competition for use. The conference/meeting areas adjoin and we found complimentary snacks and coffee being served nearby. There is lots to do, eat and see a short walk or Uber ride from this location in a great city and we did all that too, but we always enjoyed our return to that restful and exclusive space on the 38th floor. Hope to return soon.

Room Tip: All rooms are well appointed with excellent views

Very modern building and extremely friendly staff. The place has an awesome pool and the units are high-end. The bed was really comfortable. Full modern kitchen. Although we didn't cook because we only stayed one night. We'll definitely be coming back for a two night stay. Walk to restaurants

Bedroom..no phone (had to go to living room for wake up call). night stand and light only on one side (see photo above) spouse has to read by bringing a candle?? no instructions for using in closet safe (fortunately I knew how). bed is on a platform ( I'm 79 years old... murder to get out of, put on socks). decor sterile and cold. Bathroom.. toilet paper single ply and rough. kleenex 1/2 normal size. no quetips or cotton balls. no magnifying glass to put on make up. no shower cap. no adjustable shower heads. towels just adequate, not plush like a 5 star hotel should supply. Living room.. one chair, one sofa that is low and deep and hard to get out of. Cold and sterile as a morgue. TV..I don't know how many stations are available but there is no HBO. Also no list of channels and their corresponding channel numbers next to either TV set. Kitchen.. all the appliances, dishes, silverware, etc, you would want for an extended stay. when we checked in, there was no coffee for the coffee machine. Rectangle kitchen table but only two chairs. We couldn't ask our son and his wife to come upstairs for coffee and a snack as there are not 2 more chairs for them to sit on. Hotel personnel... lovely and really tried to accommodate except for a corporate VP of sales (who was there when we checked out) who kept making excuses for everything that was wrong (while reiterating that he wasn't making excuses) until he just decided to walk away. The front desk mgr was delightful! General comments.. the front desk has no money to change large bills (a $20) so you can pay a taxi or whatever. The chambermaid never made up our room the first day (the front desk mgr comped the room for that day and sent up chocolates, a bottle of wine and a lovely note of apology). The chambermaid never ran the dishwasher the next day... didn't bother complaining (it was too much already). There was construction still going on and the hall was dirty. They show a photo (above) of a restaurant. There is no restaurant... it is under construction. They offer coffee on the 28th floor...yes, coffee or tea or hot water and with that you can select either a pear or an apple or a power bar. That's it folks. Hampton Inns, Holiday Inns (for $120 a night) give an included breakfast... We paid $643 a night plus $100 in tax! Do you think for that much money there should have been something else for breakfast? No hotel directory in the apartment with direct phone extensions, services, etc. Bottom line: This is basically an extended stay facility that is trying to act like a 5 star hotel when it has empty apartments to fill. It is geared to be an extended stay facility. They just don't act like a 5 star hotel for guests who will be there for 1-4 or 5 nights. They should take their executives to a Peninsula Hotel for a weekend and make lots and lots of notes about being a hotel and not a rental, extended stay apartment facility. The view is nice but you are not looking out on Hong Kong or New York City. The apartment was very clean. The above mentioned VP kept noting that they were only open since January and why this and that was happening. He had no effective answer when I said he should then charge $50 a night while they are doing a soft opening and not inflict their learning curve on my $643 + tax a night stay there. That's when he walked away.

This new hotel has stunning city views. The 1 bedroom suite is large with a full kitchen and family type coffee maker. The amenities were typical of a high 4 star hotel except there was no room service available and since the hotel is located in a not so central location one has to go a little further to have a meal. The pool is on a high floor with stunning views. The Front Desk staff was very friendly.
