I'm from Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh to be exact but moved out to Arizona back in the late '80s. I come back here every year and literally drive from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia to get both a Pat's and a Gino's cheesesteak.
The problem with all these bad reviews are people looking for some kind of gourmet steak sandwich. THAT IS NOT WHAT A CHEESE STEAK IS. It's a cheese steak, not a steak sandwich you're going to get at a middle class to fancy restaurant.
Pat has better bread, Gino's has better steak and whiz. When you're going to get a cheese steak it's going to be on a soft hoagie roll. your going to have some thinly cut ribeye, some onions, peppers and of course cheese whiz. If you're one of those people trying to substitute any of those toppings for something like provolone cheese or add mushrooms, an OG CHEESESTEAK IS NOT FOR YOU. so don't eat it and give it a one star review saying it was awful, you just don't know what you're eating. Cheesesteaks are definitely not for everybody, so go back to whatever high-end restaurant you just paid $33 for a steak sandwich at.
