When Kanella moved out of center city Philadelphia it was a real loss. It is now back as a "kebob house"--but don't think of that as quick mediocre food. We have been there twice in a month and each time the food was excellent. They had a special Baba Ganoush appetizer on our second visit that was heaven on a plate. The first time they had a fresh sardine platter that was excellent, but I would definitely have liked one more sardine (and I am not a huge eater). On the second visit I had lamb shawarma and it was abundant. Their halloumi platter is very generous. One of our diners can't eat onions and the waitstaff and chef were very helpful. Excellent warm pita and galaktoboureko so good it makes you wonder why you ever wanted anything else for dessert in your life. Good service, simple atmosphere. BYOB. No reservations. Cash only.
