We stayed in unit #88 owned by Karen Crawford. Pros & Cons:

PROS:
1. Remodeled kitchen and bathrooms
2. Garage parking (shared not private)
3. Close to Canyon Lodge BUT NOT ABLE TO SKI THERE!

CONS:

1. Don't believe when they say it's ski in/out. It's NOT. The come back trail goes NEAR the back of the property but there's not way to traverse onto the property. Too much snow piled up.

2. Unit #88 is located in the BACK on the upper floor. This means you walk up the first flight of stairs to get above the garages. THEN YOU WALK UP 2 more flights of stairs to get to the top units. YEP THATS 3 FLIGHTS OF STEPS YOU HAVE TO LUG YOUR LUGGAGE, SKIS, BOOTS, FOOD UP! Our arms nearly fell off doing this with gear for a family of 4.

3. We had some friends over for dinner and wanted to watch a movie. We couldn't figure out how to use the DVD. We called Karen Crawford, the owner. She said she didn't know how to us the equipment either! She said she got the equipment from the previous owner and didn't know how it works. She has lots of movies nicely placed near the non working DVR. Don't let it fool you. It ruined our plans for the evening.

4. There is a TINY little area right after entering the door for shoes, skis, etc. It would've been sufficient for us to put our boots, HOWEVER, Karen had a HUGE delivery box there so we weren't able to use that space at all.

5. The listing says 2 bedroom. DONT LET THAT FOOL YOU! It's actually only a 1 bedroom with an accordion door added to separate the living room from an alcove. The alcove is so small you can't even walk around the bed! And the latch for the accordion door didn't work so there was no privacy. Not to mention, access to the 2nd bathroom was through that alcove too.

6. Nicely remodeled kitchen but too much stuff on counter and cabinets crowded the already small space.

7. The heater was not consistent. It heated the bedroom too hot but left the living room cold. The fireplace heated up the living room too much then would turn itself off in the middle of the night. We'd wake up cold!

Overall it was an ok stay. But I wouldn't stay here again.

Jeanne,

It appears that you rented the condo directly from the owner. This Trip Advisor page is for the Mammoth Ski & Racquet Club units rented by the onsite management. In the future please book directly with us and we will be able to help you with any problems you have during your stay with onsite staff. 888-762-6668 or www.mammothdirect.com.

Mammoth Ski & Racquet Club is not technically ski/in ski out. Mammoth Mountain does make a path from the ski back trail down to the back of the complex near the tennis courts. To 'ski out' you would walk up the plowed path to the ski back trail and ski down to the Village where you can buy a ticket and take the gondola up to the mountain. Maintenance of the ski back trail is out of our control, so at times you may need to walk to the end of our driveway and catch the shuttle or just walk to the lodge.

This place has a good location within walking distance to the village, 8/10's of a mile away. Its on the trolley line too which is great. The nice lady at the front desk, Chris was terriffic! Lots of knowledge and very helpful and friendly. She treats the place like she owned it. Thats the good news. The bad news is that she doesnt own the place! We stayed in unit 106. Plenty of room but closets full of junk, a badly stained carpet that needs replacing, an almost impossible to open bedroom window and very uncomfortable living room furniture. You can tell they have begun updating the place somewhat. Great shower head and a functional kitchen. Bedroom curtains need to be thrown and they need a fan! It can get quite warm in mammoth! This place was about 215.00 per night and was worth about half that. We wont stay here again only because there are plenty of places that are better for the buck. Chris at the desk is a keeper though! Thanks for the great service!

Room Tip: Not 106 until they do some more work on the place!

DocDawg,

Could you please contact me at jeff@mammothres.com when you can. I'm interested in who you rented the unit through. If it was from us, we will certainly make things right. If you rented directly through the owner as I suspect, we would like to pass these comments along to them.

Thanks,

We stayed in unit 30. Having 2 1/2 bathrooms was nice. Kitchen is outdated and no towels, hot pads or any basic cleaning items. Pool and spa were close to the unit, so that was nice. Pool was also warm. Not walking distance to the village, about 4-5 minute drive. Pretty much looks like the pictures.

Reservations were easy, charged card in full prior to arrival but worked out fine. The buildings are a little older but we were very comfortable. Sheets, towels were clean. Bathrooms and kitchen were spotless. Kitchens had more than adequate cookware, china and silverware. Our unit had clean carpeting throughout. Upper windows were a little dirty but not really a problem. The pool, hot tubs and sauna are well maintained and certainly welcome after a strenuous day hike. What we really liked was the peace and quiet. We stayed mid-week so cannot comment on weekend noise. Over all, we would certainly stay here again.

Loved the indoor parking very handy with lots of snow coming down. Stay in unit 67 which is the "Home of 105 Cowboys" and probably 200 horses...quite a quaint decorating style. This unit could house at least at least 8 - 2 master, 4 bunk room, 2 on the couch with 2 full bathrooms with dining space for 8. The kitchen is very fully complemented and a little worse for the wear, but very functional. Very beautiful view and the sun comes streaming in early in the morning. The two flights of stair were tough at high altitude, but a good warm up. The staff was awesome and helpful, letting me stay 3 hours late on departure and let us back in to grab an item we left behind. Could hear the neighbors partying next door in the downstairs living area, but upstair was silent with good sound isolation. Ski-in, Ski-out is a little of a stretch, but if you look you can find the walkway you can climb up to the Village Return Run...just be sure to keep your speed up...it is a little easier than walking down the hill and up the hill to Canyon Lodge.
