This restaurant is conveniently located near shops. It is nicely decorated with booths and tables. Famous for home made pies. Our favorite menu choice was a Trio- small chicken pot pie, small salad, and slice of pie- all for single price. Very good food. Love the corn bread. Nice spot for families although it can be a little slow with service.

A return trip to the homestead turned out pretty sad, but at least a few places hadn't changed, this was one of them, they still have good tasty food and service, price reasonable, thumbs up!

while visiting with family, we all decided to go out for dinner and chose marie callenders. the menu looked yummy. hubby and i chose a seafood combo of grilled cajun shrimp with house salad side, he had fries as a second side, and i selected cole slaw for my second side. we had lemon merangue and dutch apple for pie.

the kids had mac/cheese with fries and garlic bread, their mom had chicken strips with fries and salad.

it's been a while since hubby and i ate at marie's but we both remembered the corn bread (served while you wait) as tasting like cornbread. so we were disappointed with that. but the meals were actually decent and tasty and we really can't complain about any of the food.

however...i'm not sure if our server (kassidy) was new or hadn't completed her training or didn't receive any training, but the service was not good. first, it took us a while to see her to flag her down to get silverware to spread butter on the cornbread. then dessert orders were taken without clearing any dishes from the table. when she showed up with two pies to be eaten at the table, there was no room to place them on the table. i picked up my plate so kassidy could put my dessert down, and hubby picked up his plate to make room for his pie. she then took our two plates, never to return to clean the rest of the plates for the others. lastly, she never came back to run our card, even though we waited and waited. we finally just took the bill to the front cashier.

Years ago I really looked forward to my MC visit, especially the desserts. Over the past few years, well "yuck." Wilted salad greens and over salted food have become the norm. Desserts are still ok, but the price makes it more of a question of value. Ventura desperately needs better restaurants and MC is one of the reasons why. Skip this place or just do dessert take out and amble over to one of the fish options in town.
