When I read tripadvisor reviews of hotels I like to know what types of hotels the writer is used to as this will often influence their review. So to let readers know we will stay in hotel rooms over 30 nights this year. We stay in 3 and 4 star hotels and are influenced by cleanliness and location. HGI Times Square Hotel is "well used" and our room was moderately clean. Typical for NYC. Price was typical for NYC ...outrageous for what you get. Overall we would probably stay here again because of the positives below.
Positives: location, convenient to restaurants, grocery store and deli.
Easy to walk to most Broadway plays and subway access.
Room was a good size
Front desk was helpful
Negatives: location - right across the street from the fire station. Lots of sirens
Small grill with limited options instead of restaurant or room service. We are used to having breakfast included when we stay at HGI. Not available here.
Our room did not have a microwave.
Wifi was quite slow in the evenings.

Booked this hotel prior to our stay in New York and wasn’t disappointed. Rooms were very spacious, had a fridge, microwave and tea/coffee making facilities. Staff were all very helpful and welcoming.

Location is excellent, a few minutes from Times Square and about ten minutes from Central Park.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would have no hesitation in returning.

Location: Very closed to Times Square. Located on 8 avenue / 48th street, really convenient as closed to subway station, many restaurants nearby, a step from Broadway theaters, Central Park, Rockefeller Center (Top of the Rock), The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA)

Room: My room is Twin bed which is big enough for 3 pax. Toilet is also large. Rooms come with Contemporary style. Free Wi-Fi is a plus.

Facility: Grab and go market next to the lobby is great, you could find everything there, also, I love their complimentary bottle of water which we can choose from there. Room-key access elevators made me feel secure.

Staff: The front staff welcomed us with smile even we arrive at mid night as per our flight. He helped to make the check-in process done in a few minutes. We were tired from a long flight and this was really a good welcome to us.

Concierge: Very pleasant and helpful, he helped us to store our luggage while checked-out in the morning and travel in the city before check-in to another hotel.

Recommended!

Room tip: High floor is recommended!

This was my first ever trip to New York but luckily I was with friends who had all been before.

We chose this hotel primarily because of its location - less than a ten minute walk to Times Square.

Our room was on the front of the hotel and so much quieter than expected - at least with the windows closed! The air conditioner was effective although a little on the noisy side.

The two double beds meant my friend and I had plenty of room to spread out and they were so comfortable that we slept well throughout our stay.

We soon got to grips with the coffee machine (paper cups) but were so glad we brought our own tea bags! New York just doesn’t understand tea! The fridge was useful but we didn’t use the microwave.

Sadly the rooftop bar on floor 15 was closed for refurbishment so we had to venture further afield for that experience.

What really makes this hotel however is the lovely staff - on a Reception, the concierges and the chamber maids. They were all so helpful and charming although I don’t think they always understood our Yorkshire sense of humour.

We did not get the name of the young man on Reception who was particularly helpful. He was from Brooklyn. He had long hair (tied back) and the most wonderful smile and was on duty on the evenings 10-12 May. A credit to your establishment

Room tip: We were on the 6th floor at the front

Enjoyed our stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Times Square! It was 4 blocks from the show we were seeing. Room was a very good size and nice and clean. The manager Maurice was a pleasure to deal with and Adwoa at the front desk was very helpful and friendly! Would definitely stay there again in the future!
