Love the Mermaid's raw oyster happy hour! I have been here several times now. My best friend and I are huge fans of raw oysters with mignonette sauce!
We have tried several varieties of the raw oysters to date and have loved all of them (the bottles of bubbly haven't been bad either.)
The bar gets super crowded so you have to get there a bit early to get a seat but if you love raw oysters and mignonette sauce, I recommend trying the place.

Based on the rating (top 1% of NYC restaurants) and the reviews, we were expecting something at an extremely high level. We did not have any complaints worth writing about, but we also would not go out of our way to return here for a future visit. We each had a drink, the $32 raw bar sampler, and a couple appetizers. This was enough to fill us up without entrees and we hold out hope that had we had entrees we would have been more impressed. Service was excruciatingly slow when it came time to pay, to the point of almost walking out. We were seated in a small back room near the bathroom. The location of our table made it so that every single person who walked by to go to the bathroom kicked my chair. There wasn't much choice because of the lack of spacing for a pathway to the main dining room. The raw items were tasty but the food runner did not introduce us to what was included in terms of types of oysters so we had no idea what we were eating. Food was good...just not treated the way you expect in a top restaurant.

Yes all the reviews are right the food is excellent. Here's a tip for a Saturday night, which we did: get there for the happy hour food menu, which is from 4-7pm. Tapas-like servings, all excellent! We had the sliders, tacos, chowder soup, and I thought best of all, the clams which were $1 each. Had 6 of them and was super happy!

We went here a bout a year ago for happy hours with oysters and wanted to do it again. I remembered the location and my husband, the name. Still great and gets full about 10 minutes after 5:00 when it opens. Their small bites are delicious and creative: mini fish tacos have a bit and can often be bland most places. And the small clam chowder is yummy and very appealing. And good happy hour wine choices. I look forward to bumping into it again.
