The Excelsior Hotel is a gem and retains that feel of "old" New York - not the 70s creepy way, but the class of the 40s and 50s way. We were greeted by the staff and told that parking at the AMNH was $27 per day - what a steal in NY! We then headed up to our room - and yes, the hallway and the rooms are on the warm side - and if you're a middle aged woman you know what I mean! But, with the window left open a crack or the cool air on, you adapt! The room and the hotel are clean and no bed bugs -- a big plus in NYC! We had a glorious view of the planetarium of AMNH and the Park, which are added bonuses in the city! The Calle Noche restaurant is, according to my daughter, an added bonus, but unfortunately never got to try it. Grab a Starbucks around the corner and take morning walks in the Park! We'll be back! Did I say it was CLEAN? Glorious!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the AMNH! Simply beautiful!

A lovely hotel, excellent location for central park, natural history museum. midtown was within walking distance (1 mile). Gave a more natural impression of NY being near to residential district, saw SJP out for a stroll one evening!
Only faults were a chip in the enamel of the bath, hairline crack in sink, dusty ipod docking station. Thats being picky, 2 double beds in room, excellent furnishings and decor, friendly staff, shower was excellent!
Can't wait to go there again.

Room Tip: We asked for a double room, apparently no extra cost.

Excelsior was very good. Nice room, new bath. Excellent location. Good hotel for a weekend in NYC. Good pubs, restaurants, bagel shops, museums in walking distance.

The problem with this hotel is that the staff was very rude to us just because we were a group of students. The hotel was over booked and they didn't give us a room to stay for the night, even though we had already paid. Instead they called a partner hotel and made us cross the entire city looking for this other hotel that looked cheaper than the Excelsior. I think that the staff should be more aware of giving a proper consumer service.
