“Clean, inexpensive, great location, complimentary ear plugs”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 January 2012

My husband and I stayed here for the Phish New Year's run 12/2011. When every other hotel in the city was $300+ a night, the Chelsea Inn came in at $170 a night. In the summer it is about $100. Parking was less than a block away for $45 a night. Our room was in the front of the building and on the 4th floor. I liked having the street right outside the window with a fire escape, so I could sit out there and be entertained by what went by, but I suspect the back rooms may be quieter. There are no elevators so if you suffer from any respiratory maladies, or a bum knee, you might want to think twice about staying here. We, on the other hand, love a good physical challenge and a reason to be thankful for packing light. Our room came with a small fridge (which was killer) and fire escape which was like a whole other room for me! After an initial investigation for bed bugs and critters (room very, very clean) we found these complimentary ear plugs. Hmmmmm.......The street is a bit noisy with commercial vehicles stopping on 17th street during the day and at night, a gay club crankin' downstairs called Splash. And Splash has a killer sound system. But we could not hear it on the 4th floor. I can't say the same for the 1st floor, but I just don't know. The folks at the Inn were real nice and we would definitely stay again - but know that the "breakfast" is a bagel OR muffin that is available next door, and you have to take it back to your room. Luckily for us, we partied so hard we didn't need the earplugs and we slep through breakfast.

Room Tip: Stay well above the club, and if you want ANY type of view, a room facing the street.

This hotel is located within walking distance of all kinds of great things, including the Chelsea Market, the Highline Park, Union Square, and all kinds of great shopping and little restaurants and such. It's got a small pub on one side and a gay club on the other. The Rubin Museum is just down the street and well worth a visit. The hotel itself has the kind of shabbiness that calls to mind an artist's garret. The rooms are small and oddly shaped, with mismatched furniture and many layers of paint on the wall. But it was clean clean clean, the staff were friendly and helpful, the guests were quiet. It's unbelievable how inexpensive this place is, especially if you are willing to share a (clean) bathroom with another room. BTW, there are several long-term parking garages within a 2 block radius, although no parking on site. The one thing to know: there are some serious stairs and no elevator. If this is a problem ask for a room on a lower floor. This place has a lot of character, and I'll definitely be back! I feel like I've been looking for this place in NYC for years.

Room Tip: Lots of steep stairs. No elevator or bell boy.

Had one of the upper floor rooms when I stayed here, a bit to cary the luggage but they had a luggage room so you don't have to carry everything with you.

Friendly service and team. In the Chelsea district so easy walking district to the Village and Union Square areas.

For around $100 or so a room I thought it was great value given location. My room was at the back so din't have any street noise issue. In any case the aircon was blowing so much that it acts like a white noise machine.

Shared toilets is a compromise for me, but had no issues with neighbours.

The bed can be a bit longer as I'm a taller guy but overall its a nice and cosy bed and breakfast type establishment.

Great little spot in Chelsea. Close to everything you need and everything you don't. Staff is efficient, friendly, and informative. The rooms are small and sparse in some ways, yet have a mini fridge and coffee pot. This hotel does not have frills but is clean and safe. The reasonable rate may make you suspect, but don't be.

If you have time, stop by the Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art that is just down the street.

Room Tip: First floor room has en suite bathroom and is situated in back of hotel overlooking a quiet courtyar...

This hotel is in a fantastic location near Union Square and many subway stops. Plenty to do within walking distance. If you plan to go out at night, then this is the place for you. If you plan to sleep and are a light sleeper, you may want to look elsewhere.

There are no elevators so you have to lug your suitcase up flights of stairs. My business associate and I shared a bathroom but had separate sleeping quarters. The bathroom was a nice size and we each had a refrigerator, safe, and nice sized closet in the room.

My only real complaint is the noise, which is not in management's control. They do supply earplugs, but between the karaoke bar, cabs honking, and general noise, getting a good night's sleep was a challenge.
