We visited the Onassis Cultural Center to see the World of Emotions in Ancient Greece and were blown away by both the Center itself and the exhibit.

We found the entrance hall amazing with 50 foot high ceilings, reproductions of the Elgin Marbles on the wall, and many interesting details, including some amazing modern art. The beautiful chairs were a treat not only for my tired feet but for my eyes, finding many beautiful angles to discover.

Downstairs -- and the stairs are beautiful -- we found a very friendly and informative welcomer and a pond filled with water. We both chose a disk containing the name of an emotion.

We were instructed to throw our disks in the pond. My companion's "LOVE" floated beautifully; my "WRATH" sank to the bottom. A bit of philosophy in action.

The exhibit was splendid; we stayed for over three hours entranced with the knowledge and the beauty.

Wonderful for both of us.

This traveling exhibit presents a unique collection of Ancient Greek art works from 700 BC to 200 AD. Various art forms such as pottery paintings, classic statues, wall frescos and funerary pieces express emotions of joy, happiness, triumph, sadness, grieving, seduction, anger, and jealousy to name a few. It appears that artists of that period had established various formats to represent the message being delivered. A Docent was there to explain detailed information regarding the pieces. There was no charge for admission.

The Emotions Exhibition using Greek statues, ceramics and metal is terrific. It shows the range of emotions present in Greek art. It helps you understand the art in a new a different way. I highly recommend it.

Be sure to check the hours before you go. They are a bit irregular.
