Beautiful theater. I have never been to a theater, though, that won't let you take a picture before the show starts. I don't get it. We went to see Carousel. I thought some of the individual performances were good. I thought the story line was odd and hard to follow in places. I had an issue with not being able to bend my knees far enough to be able to sit in my assigned seat. The seats are terribly close together in the balcony. I talked to the house manager and the theater did their best to be accommodating.

I had never seen Carousel, but based on the cast and the show's status as classical musical theater we got tickets when were in town. It is obviously a revered show by many people, but our family found it to be a technically brilliant production, but emotionally flat. Each individual cast member was excellent, but they lacked cohesion - they didn't feel like they were performing in the same show or with each other. The dancing was the highlight of the show - the choreography is amazing. The show is LONG - almost three hours which means that you will likely need to use the restrooms. Which means you will need to tackle the theater's almost comical queuing plan. The loos are upstairs, but the lines form quickly, which means if you are seated upstairs, you may have to climb down the stairs and join the line which travels back up the stairs and winds around to the restrooms. A number of older patrons were in complete disbelief and complaining loudly. The staff, having no control over the building's unfortunate layout, treats the intermission like a battle to be endured. People pay a lot of money to come to these shows and don't particularly enjoy being treated with disdain. What can you do? Wear a Depends or avoid drinking any beverages pre-show.

Saw the revival of Carousel here, and enjoyed it immensely. We arrived 30 minutes before curtain, used the restrooms then, and had none of the issues mentioned in previous reviews. Beautiful old theater, feels very vintage Broadway. Carousel itself was outstanding, sets and choreography were amazing. Lindsay Mendez stole the show in her role as Carrie Pipperidge, definitely deserved the Tony she received. All in all a wonderful evening!

Carousel was a brilliant production as you'd expect in NYC, absolutely spot on.

Got the tickets from TKTS - £65, on the left hand side, row Q but a good view nonetheless. There was a bossy woman stewarding alongside us which was more humorous than annoying however the toilets were another thing altogether. At the interval people are being herded around with plenty of shouting, like sheep. The toilets were on the other side of the theatre and although I got over there quickly enough, joining an orderly queue, another queue soon formed, coming upstairs. Incredibly, the staff decided to let only the upstairs queue into the toilets causing some shouts of annoyance from the people queuing some way back behind me! What an utter shambles.

Got a Rum and Coke in a big plastic cup but it was a souvenir plastic cup so it was nice gift to take home!

We travelled to New York to see the musical "Carousel" which was showing on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre. The show itself was absolutely wonderful (see separate review ). However, the theatre itself was old and needed upgrading. We agree with other reviews of this theatre. There was only two rest rooms ( toilets) , both located on the Gallery level and long queues formed on the stairways in the short interview. Staff were on the whole very brusque in rushing people back to their seats. Getting into the theatre was a bit rushed with again long queues still outside a short time before the show started. We had to collect our tickets before the show started and had to join this queue.. One big disappointment for us was that there were no formal souvenir programmes showing the cast, just a general PlayBill magazine ( free ). It was an extremely hot day which prompted the theatre staff to raise the air conditioning to gale force which was very cold and uncomfortable . Take something warm just in case All in all a great show but a poor theatre experience.and avoid drinking too much beforehand.

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear that you've had this experience.

Because of the strict "no-late seating" aspects of the production, the house staff must get everyone into the theatre as quickly as possible.

As far as the bathroom situation, I'm sorry that it wasn't the most convenient for your needs.

Thank you for your patronage.

Best,
Brian
