Description: The last of its kind near 42nd Street, Chez Josephine is a neighborhood gem founded in 1986 by Jean-Claude Baker as a tribute to legendary Josephine Baker. This Parisian bistro offers live piano music and a tantalizing menu in an intimate setting of red velvet walls, a cavalcade of chandeliers and a blue-tin ceiling. Guests receive a warm welcoming and are treated as family whether coming before a show, after the show, for a leisurely dinner in-between, or a drink at the zinc bar.

Nice restaurant in Hell's Kitchen. Small, crowded bar, quite a few tables in dining room. Had Calves Liver which was tender and tasty. Escargot were garlicky and yummy. Pasta was average. Prices normal for NYC. Only real complaint is that piano player was way too loud for the space. He was good, but hard to talk to your dinner companion.

We visited recently and enjoyed the experience ! Also, piano music nightly with a prefix menu starting at $30 for show goers! A little off the beaten track and a few might not like the beautiful paintings but for most, they will be delivered back in time, when Josephine ruled !

This bar is popular for the after-show crowd. It is nicely decorated in an homage to Paris; there is generally at least a piano player if not a trio playing there. It's fine. I don't think it is very French but it a nice place to eat a meal or have a drink. I wish that if they were going to go French they'd go all the way. Wonderfully smart and friendly bartender.

I read all the reviews on this restaurant and decided to try it. My family and I were disappointed with the food quality. We dinned at 7pm and we informed our waiter we were not going to a show. My crab cakes were very crumbly and small. My daughter's salmon was over cooked (she refused to return it because she was hungry) and the green beans over cooked. Our food arrived well before our wine and I had to ask for it twice. The main course arrived and we literally just put down our forks from the appetizers. The waiter was calling for help to remove the plates. All very rushed. Sad because the restaurant decor is interesting and gets you excited about your dining experience. We had made the reservation on open table and for some reason we were placed upstairs in no-mans-land. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.
