Asked the front desk at San Carlos hotel for a recommendation on Chinese food. "Chin Chin." A block away.

Owner greets you at the door. You are whisked away to a table. Wait staff tend to your every need. Salads and starters brought before you order.

Get the specials that evening. On my visit, it was soft shell crab with a choice of preparations. Spicy, garlicy, whatever. The chef knows his trade. Trust the suggestions of the staff.

This has to be the most exquisite Chinese meal I've had. Ever.

Chin chin has the best Chinese food in NYC. Fast and attentive service. Any Chinese dish you can think of is made with perfection here. Prices are also reasonable. Their egg drop soup is a favorite. All the lo means are excellent. Like I said, there isn't one traditional Chinese dish on this menu that you will be disappointed with. It is always very crowded but they seat you fast. Table 16 is our favorite table for 2.

I left NY for London 20 years ago and do miss the 'old style' Chinese food. Jimmy Chin, the owner and greeter, is ever present and knows everyone in the restaurant after 5 minutes. The food is simply GREAT, The waiters make suggestions and will adjust according. Spare ribs, three types of dumplings. Orange Beef, Lobster Cantonese....you name it...also a great wine list. A definite must come back again. Lastly the bill was a most pleasant surprise as I thought it would be 30% higher. Go Jimmy

Chin Chin is a nice Chinese restaurant on 49th between 2nd and 3rd. The food is very good, and not expensive. The decor is slightly more upscale than an average Chinese restaurant too.

A client suggested we have dinner at this neighborhood restaurant, had passed it many times
but never went in....what a very pleasant surprise.
Well decorated, staff very attentive and the manager Jimmy can only be described as
"An old style host with a smile, a warm way about him and a great conversationalist- a funny guy"
Now to to the serious part, the food is delicious, well prepared and well presented.
As the other reviewers mentioned the portions are large & so 3 main dishes should cover 4 healthy adult appitites....remember you can always order more.
Prices are fair for the portion size.
Will definatly become a regular.
