“small, but a gem of a cocktail bare in east village”

This has to be one of the best bars in Manhattan, based in East village. It is small and specialises in cocktails containing Amaros. It does not do food, but the quality of the drinks makes up for that. Sother was behind the bar and he is passionate about spreading the word on Amaros/bitters. He was very interesting to talk to and offer advice on drinks and even shared recipes. A bonus is it opens 1 hour before most bars in the area, get there early (it opens at 17:00) and grab a seat at the bar, later on the seats are removed to make room for more people, this is a small bar. For any cocktail enthusiast this has to be at the top of the list for a New York visit.

My kind of place. Small, social and wicked frickin' serious behind the bar, but with a smile. Max is a total pro .. even if he hates Christmas trees :) Will be back often.

Came in here one night before dinner. Two friends came with me to keep me company because I wanted to try the place but they weren't drinking because they're on medication.

Service: The barman made a nasty quip about me being the only one drinking and, even though the place was only half full, clearly resented my friends taking up standing space at the bar because he scowled while he made the cocktail.

Cocktail: I could have made a better Sazerac standing on my head and mixing it by swilling it between my cheeks than the one the barman carelessly tossed together. At $15, it was about $115 too expensive.

Specializes in drinks with a variety of bitters. The bartender is amazing! Solo act for about 30 people in crowded, noisy bar. Personable and relaxed - and he makes great drinks. Place can get loud and crowded so pick your moments.

this place hosts 20 people maximum, drinks are very good and take while to be prepared perfectly. The presentation of each drink is in unusual glass or bottle. Its worth stopping by this place for a drink or two.
