Staybridge Suites, Times Square

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 13 Oct 2019via mobile
Just returned from a 6 night stay at the Staybridge and have to say that we were more than happy with the hotel. Staff are friendly and polite, rooms are exactly as shown on the website and clean, the beds are extremely comfortable with linens were changed daily. Other people have spoken about a $5 a day charge for room cleaning but we were not asked to pay it. We left a couple of dollars and some chocolate bars for the cleaners each morning. Breakfast is varied and plentiful. Every morning they had juices, yogurt, fresh cut fruits, cereals, continental style tomato and meats, choice of breads, bagels, muffins, scrambled and fried eggs - then they had a different option each morning also eg waffles and bacon or french toast and ham etc. The dreaded lifts weren't too much of a problem for us on the 29th floor - yes we had to wait a couple of minutes and yes they sometimes stopped at multiple floors on the way up or down but you're on vacation so what's the rush? Location is fabulous, 5 minute walk to Times Square, 2 minutes to the nearest subway and Port Authority bus station - yes, there are some unsavoury characters along the way but the street is full of tourist hotels and always busy so you never feel unsafe. 2 Bros pizza at the end of the street is great for a late night snack, chinese takeaway at the top of the street was very tasty and the portions were huge.
Would definitely stay here again.

For the most part we enjoyed our stay. The staff was friendly and attentive. The location was great, just on the border of Hell's Kitchen and Midtown Manhattan. The free breakfast they offer in the morning is really quite good. There's also a free coffee bar available most of the day and evening. We were in a queen size room with a view of the city, which was really nice. The room was big compared to other places of comparable price. The down sides were the small elevators that took for-eh-ver to get us up to the 25th floor. And one of the three elevators broke at one point, so we got frustrated and walked up the 25 flights. 😮Also, the teeny shower creates a lake if you're not careful with its door. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but would most likely stay elsewhere until they fix their elevator situation.

We arrived exhausted having come from Australia.First impressions - we were a little unsure. Our room smelled of smoke which concerned me with two asthmatic teenagers. A quick mention to the front dress and housekeeping addressed it . My son did cough a lot that night but by the next day the smell was gone and all was well. The inside is a little worn but clean. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. Having a kitchen was great. Breakfast included was nice although my teenagers were often asleep but I enjoyed or took some for them. It was not fancy but warm, yummy and plentiful. The lifts were okay for us as we usually went late and came back late. You can store your luggage prior to check out if concerned. We had no noise from neighbours . Aircon worked well. There is a free laundry for guests which was great. It is near bus terminal and there are some interesting characters at times. There are other hotels on the street and lots of people and security about. When heading to Time Square if you cross the road you can avoid that. I’m a single mother travelling and felt okay. My 16 year old was nervous and preferred to have secure key only access to lifts etc. But he adjusted. The front staff were wonderful and very helpful. They helped make the visit.Easy walk for us to see Harry Potter and Times Square. If you are looking for reasonable priced accommodation in New York, I think the positives out way the negatives.

The highlights - the hotel is well situated, close to the subway and Times Square. Although some comments state you have to walk past a Govt. Correction Office, we had no bad experiences and felt safe as there were always plenty of other people/tourists about. The breakfast is especially good and sets you up for the day’s sightseeing. Also on some nights in the week, there is a great free bar and food provided in the early evening (until 6pm, I think). The facilities in the rooms are great - cooker, fridge, etc.

My biggest issue is the room we were given - right between two elevator shafts. I would recommend that if offered a room ending in 10 ie 2010 (floor 20, room 10), then decline it!! The elevators are about the noisiest I have ever encountered and the noise didn’t stop til 3.30am and started again at 5.30am. I went down to Reception at 6am to change the room for one far from the elevator! A good replacement was a room numbered 02 - farthest from the elevator, in the far corner of the floor.

When we moved rooms later the next day, even the person then on Reception said those rooms were pretty noisy and they usually only used them for one-nighters! Yet we had been placed in there for a three night stay.

The Hotel is ideally located for sightseeing in central New York.
Rooms are comfy and have full size fridge and cooking facilities. Staff very friendly and helpful.Complimentary breakfast was good and saved us money as did the free coffee throughout the day.
Some complained about access to lifts at busy times but we did not find any problems with lifts.
All in all very happy and would recommend it.
