Ok, it is not in the center of New York but very close to the 6 metro line. In about 15 minutes you are at Grand Central or 5th Avenue, Bloomingdales. The same 6 line goes down to Chinatown until Lower Manhattan. First metro station is very closeby (1 min walk, 3 short blocks). The neighborhood has a bad history (15 years ago), but today is very safe, although not the same as upscale regions. We did not have any problems. It is very close (1 min walk) to the upper side of Central Park. The room was very clean and very quiet (garden side) compared to central NY. Only remark is that the refrigerator on the room was a bit loud and did not switch off automatically (so we had to unplug it during the nights). Maybe needs to be replaced ?

I came across the Margot Guest House while searchiing for places to stay on this site. I have been to NYC a few times and had some places in mind, but for the dates I wanted, they were too expensive. The guest house sounded good, even if it was farther away from the heart of the city. From the moment I booked things to our check-out, our experience was fantastic. Todd is extremely helpful. He went over all sorts of things - good restaurants, best ways to get around, tips on museums and other sights. There's even a book in the room that lists out all of his recommendations.

And the room was great. There were 3 of us, and for accomodations in NYC, it felt spacious, and more importantly, clean and safe. My only complaint is that the pillows on the bed were terrible and should be replaced.

The subway and bus are both very close. It did take a bit longer getting to and from the house and the sights than if we were staying in midtown, but that wasn't a big deal. We just made sure to give ourselves a little bit more travel time.

I would definitely recommend this place to others. It will give you the feel of a real NYC neighborhood, but with all the ease of doing the touristy things you want.

Margot's is just right for a trip to NY: we wanted to be in a neighbourhood that had character, close to Central Park and with easy access to the subway, so the Margot was in a perfect location. Our room was very clean, the bed was super comfortable, and the room was decorated with a mixture of antiques from Todd's travels, which gave it a really nice feel - it also had wifi - a real bonus. The room was quiet too, so we had three blissful nights' sleep! Todd's recommendations were really helpful - a very short walk around the corner took us to Central Park, and the subway station, which took no time at all to the heart of Chelsea. We also walked from the Margot down to the Whitney, an easy half hour stroll taking in the sights and sound of the Upper East Side. We've stayed in hotels in NY on several locations - the Margot is the one we'll be returning to.

We spent 10 days in Margot House between the 30th of June and the 10 of July 2011. We were not disappointed with the place or the service, the location is good and handy to travel downtown at any time of the day. The neighbourhood is not upmarket but very safe and has a number of nice enough restaurants that open late. Todd was great as per previous reviews, provided us with lots of good information and tips. We are a family of four travelling from Sydney, Australia

Room Tip: We had the top two rooms, 5 and 6, both well appointed and being at the top we had no noise from oth...

We loved everything about staying at Margot's. Todd kept up with us on our trip out and was waiting for us on check in with a ton of info on the area. We tried several of his recommendations but our favorite was a little cuban joint ( the name is slipping from me). We had a super easy walk to the subway stations (two) and walked to museum mile and central park. Local grocery stores in area as well. Room had a fridge and microwave so we had small breakfasts in the room each morning. We stayed on the street side and the sub woke me on the first night but after that it was just part of the sounds of the city. Never even saw any other guests. Place was very quiet and room was decorated beautifully. Area was safe and we always felt comfortable exploring the area. The room was a perfect size and was great in every way. My first visit to NYC and I am so glad we didn't stay in the more touristy area. Would certainly return for another stay if we ever get the chance to visit NYC again.
