“Great free introduction to NYC”
Reviewed 7 March 2012

In a very expensive city the Staten Island Ferry is a wonderful (free) option to add to any visit. The ferry boat goes past the Statue of Liberty offering wonderful views - and of the Manhattan skyline as well. You can walk down to the ferry terminal after visiting the 911 site etc., not more than 15 minutes. Ferries depart all the time but make sure you arrive early enough to be near the front of the line. Head upstairs - not to the first deck but rather the 2nd deck (not many people know of this) and go out on the righthand side of the boat for direct views of the top sights. There are benches along the windows but if you sit there you will not be able to see due to all the people standing in front. You are better off taking a place along the railing to make sure you are not blocked out.

You must get off in Staten Island but if you are quick about it you can go into the Terminal and turn right around and get back on the same boat!

Finally, the pretzel/food shop in the terminal (Manhattan side) has the most amazing pretzels ever!

A free ride to Staten Island and back to manhattan just before sunset is so amazing. What a gift at any time of day or night, in any weather it is to take this ride. Bring your camera because the views are phenomenal.

“Great way to see Lady Liberty and NYC Skyline! Free!!!”
Reviewed 6 March 2012

The ferry is FREE and takes less than an hour to get over and back from Staten Island. You get great views of the city skyline as well as of the Statue of Liberty. The ferries are heated inside, but there is also viewing from outside decks. You can go anytime of the year! Very nice, well-maintained ferry stations.

“Classic Ferry ride”
Reviewed 4 March 2012

A great opportunity to see the fabulous lower NYC skyline as well as a fairly close overall view of the statue of liberty and the surrounding area, all for under $1 each way.
