Came upon this museum because my son wanted to go to the Natural History Museum next door. As an ex-New Yorker and twice-yearly visitor, I had never seen it or even heard of this museum before. As another reviewer said elsewhere, this is the best $10 you'll spend - and kids 12 and under are free! One of the traveling exhibits when we were there was about the guillotine, which my son loved. Another was about historical textiles imported from Asia, which was breathtaking. The permanent exhibits of New York furniture, furnishings, toys, souvenirs and more was fascinating as was the exhibit about slavery. All wrapped in a wonderfully clever layout in a sparkling clean but definitely not sterile environment. The good and bad news is you will probably have the museum relatively to yourself. Don't miss it. Give yourself several hours to visit.
