While walking through Midtown Manhattan we came across the Halal Guys. I had actually saved them as a place that I would want to try, but was a little leery after seeing a bunch of different Halal street vendors that were not the Halal Guys.

We went there around 3:30 in the afternoon so it was not busy and thought might as well try it.
Also, this isn't a normal food truck but more of a street vendor.

I ordered the Gyro rice platter and Shelly order the Chicken rice platter.

The food was ready in a few minutes and we looked at it and realized very quickly that it was a lot of food that we had just ordered. So much that the food was in pie tins!

We decided not to eat the food where everyone else was, but decided to make the 6 block or so walk up to Central Park to sit and relax. This turned out to be a great idea because it was decently quiet and we were able to view the skyline.

As for the food, it was amazing! They had a special white sauce, kind of like Tzatziki sauce but not clumpy, and a really hot red sauce. I mean hot

There was delicious pita bread on top of the meat and rice. This was seriously one of the best tasting meals we had in all of NYC.

It's cheap, it's quick, it's served hot, it's full of flavours, it can be flexed to suit you ( happily obliged when we asked for just the falafel from the falafel sandwiches) and ever so pleased to serve a customer for the 5 to 10 $ they leave you a much happier person than some of the exotic celebrity chef restaurants that smile only as wide as the amount you spend and the tip they predict, even McDonalds where staff were running around like headless chicken. You must try, at least once, They are as clean as you get, you probably would want to skip anything not hot if you have delicate and paranoid tum. We can recommend all three we tried, falafel with white sauce, Knish and lamb gyro. Go for it, choose a cart or brand that's busy, there is a reason why they are

Just love these food stands near the Hilton at Midtown. I remember when they only had 1 or 2 carts and now they have 4 carts and the lines are still super long. They have some fantastic gyros and platters. Love all of them, and if you like it spicy, get some extra of that spicy sauce because it's fantastic! Certainly some of my favorite street food in NYC, worth a visit every time I come to NYC.

If you are on a restricted diet (Halal) or not, this will definitely fill you up deliciously.
I recommend you ask for extra sauce or just opt for putting it on yourself.

Was excited to try this place due to the reviews. Cheap, yes, you can eat one bowl for two people. But meat is just ok quality; shredded chicken is kind of dodgy. Sauce is good; the red one is seriously spicy. They have carts on each side of 6th. Have your money ready or the guy will give you a "Soup nazi" reaction! Nowhere to sit, but the west side cart (near the Starbucks) has some benches.
