“more bed than breakfast”
Reviewed 22 March 2012

. We stayed in the canopy room which was quiet and pleasant. our stay was a saturday night and was quiet for sleeping, the city may never sleep but sunday morning does tend to be calm. 23rd is a two way cross city street and not a quiet tree lined brownstone st. so other mornings will be different. The Canopy room and library where breakfast and the honor bar is located are decorated in victorian decor and eclectic mix of furniture I have no idea if they are valuable antiques or not but the ambience and appearance was delightful and comfortable The room although not fully accessible( no safety bars or roll in shower) the doors are wide and and distances are short in the inn such that anyone with limited mobility could enjoy this inn. There is a modern and smooth elevator.
Breakfast was not up to the standards of the rest of the inn. There was yogurts and granola, bagels with assorted smears, a quiche to heat in the microwave, and assorted fruit. As a person who enjoys cooking and Sunday breakfast is is one of life's pleasures an electric griddle and someone to throw on an egg and some pancakes with real maple syrup and a i would add a least a star or two for service and value. If you are going to the museums the free museum passes are a definite plus and value

Room Tip: review the rooms on the inn's website. They don' appear to guarantee a specific room but it...

this hotel is a real find - quiet, quirky, friendly and homely. we stayed for 2 nights and immediately felt at home in our room and in the charming library/dining room where breakfast is served and which is available to relax in during the rest of the day wiht hot drinks available. All the people we met (staff, managers and other guests) were happy and chatty so that the atmosphere was extremely pleasant. this hotel might not suit everyone but we found it a welcome oasis in the middle of a busy, chaotic and at times overwhelming city.

We were warmly welcomed by Thomas, and shown to a comfortable room with a nice-sized bathroom. Generally, an extremely user-friendly, homey place. The breakfast was paltry, so the second day we went to the diner down the street, which was great! The location is very convenient to everywhere because of the subway. It was very nice to be given the loan of a pass to the Met.

Room Tip: Our room was quiet, with a brick wall as a view, but comfortable...I'd say it might be known as...

I found it a bit down on its heals. As well, you cannot reserve a particular room and while you may think you have reserved one you like, you can arrive and have another and it doesn't matter if it suits you or not. The room shuddered when the subway went by, there was no window to look out (just a brick wall), only a skylight in the room we got. It is certainly not cheap. The staff was lovely and the location was pretty good. I don't think I would stay there again.

Room Tip: If I was to go there again, I would ask for a room with a window to the street but don't know if...

Echoing recent posts, the Chelsea location between 6th and 7th Avenues is convenient to major subway lines and an easy walk or short cab ride from Penn Station. Thoughtful staff - especially Thomas! - and nicely appointed rooms make this a good choice if you're tired of hotels. Across/up the street is a fabulous market/deli/salad bar called Garden of Eden - fair prices for anything you could want to create a meal.

Room Tip: if street noise [traffic] bothers you, pick a room in the back of the building.
