The US Grant is an exceptional hotel to stay at in San Diego. Well situated downtown, it is close to many sites. You can valet park with in and out privileges but it's very pricey at $50/day. There are some parking garages in the area for lesser fees. We had a really nicely decorated and spacious room with 2 very comfortable queen beds on the 7th floor. The bathroom was clean and updated with a large window. The only issue with the window is that it's not frosted so you have to lower the blinds every time you are in there or the room across the way outside can look directly in.
The hotel room also had a long desk, large tv, cupboards with tea kettle and coffee maker, fridge & safe. The closet had robes and slippers. It was very clean and the hotel offered turn down service complete with water bottles and chocolates. There is a great fitness room and you can get complimentary newspapers, apples and bottled water. You can use the pool at the neighbouring hotel when staying at the US Grant. Staff are friendly. We didn't eat at the restaurant. There was afternoon juice in the lobby one day and every morning had a coffee/tea set up for guests.
We could walk about 25 mins to the waterfront to view the navy ships and 25 mins another way to Petco field. A short drive takes...The US Grant is an exceptional hotel to stay at in San Diego. We could walk about 25 mins to the waterfront to view the navy ships and 25 mins another way to Petco field. A short drive takes you to Balboa Park and San Diego Zoo (excellent!) Across from the hotel is an open space with fountains, a small Starbucks outpost and Westfield mall (but it's closing down). You're in the heart of the bar/restaurant scene but food in San Diego is another story (a horror story!)
Overall, the hotel is probably the best to stay at if you want to be in the gaslamp quarter but it is on the expensive side.More
