My husband and I just returned from a stay at the Westgate Hotel. After researching many, many San Diego hotels, we finally settled on the Westgate thanks in large part to price and glowing reviews. It definitely lived up to the great reviews! It's has beautiful old world charm with the large rooms, fresh flowers, chandeliers, antique furniture and architectural detail. The location is great as well being just a block or so off of the Gaslamp District, 15-20 minute walk to PetCo Field, Seaport Village, Convention Center, Santa Fe Depot, USS Midway, and Broadway Pier. The best part, though, is the staff. Everyone we engaged with was beyond cheerful, kind, and helpful, particularly Rahma (sp?) at the front desk and a very helpful bellhop who gave us perfect directions to get around Coronado area when we were heading out early before the concierge had arrived for the day. I highly recommend the Westgate when staying in downtown SD. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is the noticeable age of the hotel. The cold water pressure in our bathroom sink was almost nothing and the shower/tub did not drain well and flooded with each shower. Little quirks, but not a reason to not return. Great hotel!More
