Today, the interactive museum is an unforgettable adventure for the entire family as guests walk in the footsteps of the 225,000 young men who served on Midway. Visitors explore a floating city at sea, the amazing flight deck and its 29 restored aircraft, flight simulators, and are inspired in the Battle of Midway Theater, included with admission. Admission also includes a self-guided audio tour narrated by Midway sailors in English, Mandarin, Spanish, Japanese, French and German. Visiting Midway is a once-in-a-lifetime experience in San Diego, known around the world as "Navy Town, USA."

The audio tour tells you a lot about the midway and you can go at your own pace if needed. Would recommend it.

The USS Midway was a proud addition to the US Naval arsenal inafter the end of WWll. She became active as a strategic weapons platform in the Vietnam War launching several thousand sorties against the stated enemy- the NVA. After the Vietnam Wae the Midway was assigned to Operation Desert Storm, where she served gallantly. It is both fitting and proper that she be berthed in the center of West Coast Naval Activities, and held open to view for all that served aboard to share the pride of her decks and passageways, now in peacetime. It is a wonderful tour fpr youngsters and families to witness what it might be like to go to sea for a long period of time aboard an American Warship, on a search and destroy mission. It also aquaints the visitor with the weaponry available at the time.

I come from a family with little or no military background, so when it comes to the military, military equipment, etc. I'm pretty much an outsider. However, that said, I really enjoy going to the USS MIdway and find the history of the ship very interesting. We have taken friends/family many times and I would highly recommend it for anyone - especially if you have kids that like boats or aircraft - I think they will really like it. If you are an adult and you don't have to watch after a family, the audio tour is a smart move - but make sure you have the time to go through at a relaxed pace. You get to see pretty much everything - the cafeteria, the bunks, the stations, etc.

As an aside, the view from the carrier deck is excellent and a great photo op of downtown, Point Loma and the harbor. On a nice day (which is most of the year) it is just nice to look at the aircraft (which are very interesting and you can sit in some of them) enjoy the sun and if only they had lounge chairs - it would be perfect!

The ship has a small cafe with tables for lunch and a gift shop. So, if you are spending some time, there is food/drink for all.
