We got burgers, fries, and onion rings and really enjoyed everything. The service was fast and friendly.

Location in downtown San Diego leaves something to be desired as you have to walk past a lot of homeless and their possessions. It's worth getting there. I tried their classic hamburger, perfectly cooked with onions, tomatoes and pickles with a side of onion rings. A little bunt but pretty close to perfect. Combine that with a vanilla milk shake and you have pure nostalgia. The restaurant is a joint that looks like it was a factory. It's got surf boards skate boards and lots of old license plates so the kitsch factor is high.
Hodad's lists hamburger sandwich on their menu...however, it more than just a hamburger sandwich. By the time they put onion, pickles, tomato, mayo and mustard, with sauce, it's more like a "mile high" sandwich. And that's just the beginning. You have your choice of the addition of cheese, pastrami or anything you desire. It is truly the best hamburger sandwich in San Diego. Also, don't forget the onion rings...they are awesome.
My wife and I have a great time of food, music and people at Hodads. Servers were great and the food was as well. The inside is decorated surfer style with license plates from the states is the US coving the walls.
Much, much fun. My wife and I danced a got an ovation!
If you are craving a real, juicy, greasy burger, Hodad's is the place to go. Great chicken sandwiches and fries as well.
