the view of the reflecting pool from the skywalk is currently disappointing due to it being renovated and covered up or re-designed we never did find out, but worth a visit anyway to view the buildings around it.

Thanks so much for your visit to the Christian Science Plaza. The rebuild of the Reflecting Pool is ongoing, and we look forward to when it is once again a scenic highlight in Boston. Information about the ongoing Restoration and Repair Project, as well as contact information for inquiries may be found at christianscienceplaza.com. Christian Science hosts around the Plaza and tour guides and visitor service associates at the church and Mapparium are also happy to address questions in person about the project.

My wife and I visited during a week-long trip to Boston in early July. We had actually come to visit the Mapparium but on the advice of the personnel of the Mary Baker Eddy Library where the Mapparium is located, we ventured over to the nearby First Church of Christ, Scientist.

The library and church belong to a group of buildings in the Christian Science Plaza owned by the Church of Christ, Scientist, a Christian denomination founded in 1879 in Boston by Mary Baker Eddy. This faith should not be confused with Scientology; they are completely different.

We took a tour of the church on a Friday afternoon. We got a tour not only of the main church but also of the older, smaller church adjoining it. They are both magnificent, the smaller one in a more understated way.

What is particularly remarkable about the main church is its openness despite its huge size. It was constructed using arches in a Romanesque-influenced style that shares some structural similarities to the Hagia Sophia. Unlike a lot of church interiors, this one uses no pillars.

The tour ended at a place where visitors could provide donations. However, there was absolutely no pressure to do so. They also offered copies of some of the church's books and for those they did suggest a donation be made, which was understandable and more than reasonable.

This is a well known Boston highlight near to Fenway park downtown Boston featuring some wonderful buildings belonging to the Christian Science Church, guides are well informed and friendly and justifiably proud of the complex. Whilst the church is investing millions on renovations with a refurbed reflecting pool the various buildings are generally open to the public. Visit the main Mother Church Extension to listen to the magnificent organ and see the large St Pauls' like dome.

Went for the Sunday morning 10am service. What a beautiful building inside and outside. Unfortunately the exterior grounds are under renovations and surrounded by chain link construction fencing but I can only imagine what it will be like when it is finished. I had heard it was beautiful before so I'm not sure if this is being re-designed or is a large scale repair.

During construction you enter the church from the south end of the building.

I will describe the interior, and exterior for that matter as "wow".

After the service we took the free tour of the church and the original attached edifice. If you do not want to attend the 10am - 11am service, you can come in to the church around 11am and the tour will start shortly later. The meeting spot for the tour is in the area where the service is held in the aisle between the pews. A sign on a short post is carried to the spot indicating this is where to be for the start of the tour. The tour can be between 1/2 hour to an hour depending on the group but you can leave the tour at any time.

Then we took the short tour of the adjacent Mapparium for a very small fee. The Mapparium is a must do!

The guided tour is very good and the interior of the church is very impressive. The big church is actually the second church. The first church is much smaller, connected to the back of the big church and only open during services.
Well worth a visit.
