Description: Established in 1997, Jack of the Wood is one of downtown Asheville's first and oldest pubs. We have numerous local craft brews to try, serve fantastic Irish/British Isles pub fare using local ingredients, and have live music every day!

This is a small restaurant bar in downtown Asheville that has a bar, food menu and live music. The food has a general Irish theme to it (Guiness added to many dishes) but has burgers as well. The food is well prepared and more like 'comfort food' but I worth the money. I had the shepard's pie which I would rate above average. The space is small so you can hear the live music everywhere, but unless are sitting at the 3 or 4 tables very near the band, you can't really see them. On the night we were there, the band was entertaining and talented but the sound system is poor so it it was very difficult to impossible to hear the lyrics unless you knew the song already. The cover charge was only $5 which made the evening more than worth it.

Good place to have dinner and a drink and listen to some music. Lots of good English pub food offerings and good drink selection.

Had a quick dinner here, the drink special was great and the fish and chips were yummy. We were there early and they had some traditional musicians playing, which was nice. Might get louder later on?

Just a fun place to go. Decent bar food with live local music. We went when they had a mountain jam. Fiddles, bass and other strings. Great atmosphere and a taste of local culture.
