Th Grotto is probably most special for those who will dive or snorkel there. I did neither just walked down to see the place. Still, I enjoyed that. It's a fairly unique location. The stairs are steep, but they weren't too bad for me. Some others seemed to be struggling--especially if they had air tanks on their backs.
One of the better steaks on Saipan. The crew go over the top in creating veggie dishes for me as well. Pizzza is really good and the atmosphere is quaint.
The Gratto is a sea cave with a hole in the top of it letting light in. The water is warm and crystal clear. It is do peaceful to snorkel and swim inside. Do take your own snorkeling gear one can rent some in Garapan. My wife never swam in her life and was scared at first. But after a few minutes with a swim vest she enjoyed the water and se fish swimming below. If you go to Saipan this is a must. Just leave before dark as it gets very dark up there. Its free to experience and parking is free. Just be in good shape as there are many stairs to go down and back up.
The world famous "Grotto" earned it's reputation as one of the premier dive spots in the world.
Now it is sadly too popular. Hoards of Chinese tourists clamber up and down the steps for a swim and snorkel overwhelming the scuba divers. Traffic has all but ruined cycling in the beautiful Marpi area. It is a must see however. Perhaps a fee would help control the overuse? Those of us who live on Saipan are saddened to experience all that Chinese tourism has brought.
Beautiful deep blue and clear water. Many people go snorkelling in the afternoon, all you can see most was people's legs.
Diving may not be affected but only allow the one with dive licence and you have to carry your dive gear walking down and up the high and long stair.
Nevertheless, the beautiful blue is worth a visit.
Did my dive on one of the more wavy rainy days at Grotto with Aqua Connections who are professional and friendly.
For grotto, you need a guide no matter if you are snorkelling or diving because for sure you need help at the entry and exit points which can be quite wavy at some points.
I would highly recommend scuba diving at Grotto instead of snorkelling. It's one of the highlights during my stay in Saipan.
