The Fairmont is without doubt a beautiful iconic hotel, but the service let’s it down. We had a beautiful room, everything we could wanted, but the service ranged from good to poor, which was a disappointment. Our check-in was seamless, but heading downstairs for a drink at the bar, the service was very slow, which was the same at breakfast. On our first night we received an irate call from an unidentified member of staff at 11:15, waking our children, who was rude to my wife demanding to know where the keys to our car was,as it was blocking something, and when I explained that we had left the car, with the keys, with the valet at 5pm, he hung up on me! This was the worst experience I’ve had in 140 reviews on Trip Advisor. We expressed our displeasure to the manager, who was sympathetic and offered us a bottle of wine, but we didn’t want anything, just an explanation. In the end, we were unsatisfied with the response from the hotel and it appears the glory days of this grand hotel are well behind it. I’m back in San Francisco twice this month and not staying at the Fairmont.

I had the distinct pleasure of experiencing this wonderful "grande dame" July 5-9, 2018. My room was in the tower overlooking the garden and Pavillion room. The room was cleaned and well maintained; the bathroom amenities were plentiful and a very nice quality. The food & beverage was well prepared and presented; the highlight was the "Tonga Room" what an "over-the-top" party! The hotel is nicely placed withing walking distance of Union Square and Wharf.....put on your walking shoes for the hills!
All in all, a wonderful stay

Room Tip: Ask for the tower City or Bay View

Staying at the Fairmont was worth every penny. The hotel is in a great location to begin exploring as you step out the door. Starting with Grace Cathedral. Accommodations and service are everything you would expect.

Completely satisfied. The property is spectacular with a rich history of serving the “Who’s Who”. The staff were extremely helpful and courteous from valet, bellmen, registration, room service to housekeeping. It was a special stay providing cherished memories with a view of a lifetime.

Our family of 4 (with 2 teens) loved our stay here. The room size was very generous for a big city hotel. The bedding and amenities were truly luxurious, and the lobby was beautifully decorated. With this location, you are steps away from Union Square, cable cars, and more. We had a room with a king bed and sofa bed. I was surprised at the price I found for this room. The lowest price was actually on the Fairmont website. Highly recommend.
