“The best place for a budget traveller in San Fran”
Reviewed 30 January 2012

My boyfriend and I stayed at the San Remo for two nights last August and we were so happy with our choice. As other reviewers have said, it's clean, comfortable and incredibly affordable. Note that the cheapest rooms do not have their own washrooms, but we never found this to be a problem; all the shared spaces were *very* clean. Also, great staff (they let us check in a few hours early, provided us with maps, etc.) and centrally located neighbourhood - we'll be back!

We're in the penthouse for gull sakes. Did staff clean the wine glasses? NO!

How stupid is that!

This is the perfect place for an individual or perhaps a young couple on a budget. Great location, price is very good for the area. Hotel has lots of ambiance and history. The staff are very helpful and polite. The rooms are small and bathrooms are down the hall, but it's all so very tidy and clean, very well maintained, that it doesn't feel like a cheap hostel at all. More like you are stepping into history.

Room Tip: Tell the staff what you prefer - quiet, etc and they will help you pick the best spot available.

A no frills small hotel with a rooftop sanctuary just 4 blocks from Fisherman's Wharf can be found at the San Remo Hotel. The rooftop "suite" is small, but the ambiance is unforgettable. When traveling to San Francisco, our plans surround availabilty of the suite. The queen bed needs to be upgraded and the small-tiny bathroom provides a few challenges. However, the location near the Wharf, food markets, and low cost restaurants assure a wonderful stay. A bottle of wine, a roasted chicken, a loaf of fresh baked bread, and the rooftop garden with sitting area give an otherwise hurry-up bustling city a relaxing charm. The transport to the rooftop via narrow steep outside steps is rather odd, but the feeling you get looking toward the bay and surrounding areas gives way to a perfect romantic getaway.

Room Tip: This is an old boarding house. Be sure to book the rooftop suite for privacy and a view.

We are a family-owned historic boutique pension-style hotel located in North Beach, one of San Francisco's oldest and most popular tourist destinations, and only a few blocks from Fisherman's Wharf. Built in 1906, our hotel maintains an atmosphere of Old-World charm and ambiance with specially selected antique furnishings - no two rooms are alike. The walls of the hotel are filled with a collection of memorabilia and history. Our style is simplicity and sanctuary - there are no room telephones, no televisions, and on the order of European pensions, shared baths which are meticulously cleaned daily, and are private when in use, but for all guests to use. Our rooms are cozy and small, our prices are proportional. Our staff is available while our Front Desk is open to help you find anything your heart desires.
