“Perfect, cozy and charming stay.”
Reviewed 19 March 2012

We stayed at Hotel Drisco as part of the "California leg" of our honeymoon. What can I say: it was perfect. We had been in SF a couple of times before, always staying in the Wharf area, where the large Hotel companies have some of their properties. Well, I´m never staying at the Wharf or Union Square area again, I will always try to go back to the Drisco.

Upon check in, we had a King room with a city view reserved for us, 206 A (there are few, most of the kings I understand, look into a patio, so this was a nice gesture). When we entered the room, the view was beautiful and breathtaking, and we had a bottle of champagne waiting for us, with a very warm note on how they wish we return to the Drisco to celebrate anniversaries (we certainly hope to!).

We never had an issue to park just around the corner to the hotel entrance. All staff and housekeeping was great and helpful. European-style breakfast is delicious, and the wines in the evening tasting were good. And to top it all off... the neighborhood!!

Perfect boutique hotel in the middle of the residential part of the wonderful Pacific Heights neighborhood. Outstanding service, comfortable well appointed room with city vistas, great breakfast included in the reasonable price. If you don't have to be in the middle of the business district, this is the place to be.

This place was really magical; it gave us the quintessential San Francisco experience. Perched atop Pacific Heights among the beautiful mansions of this quiet neighborhood, it's a jewel of an old hotel, built in 1903 as a rooming house and impeccably renovated and maintained as a hotel. My husband and I came here with our adult daughter for a one-night visit to the City.

I have to admit that my positive experience was influenced by the City View Corner Suite to which we upgraded. They offered us the upgrade when we checked in (maybe because it was the low season?) for only $75 more (which the doorman pointed out was really only a net increase of $50, since we'd have needed a rollaway in our original room which would have cost an additional $25). Anyway, we took it, and the suite plus the view of SF were so beautiful that we almost didn't want to go out and sight-see!

The staff were all genuinely friendly and eager to help us. Marty at the front desk was great, as was Bob, the concierge-- what a guy.

Special commendation for the mattress and sumptuous linens, the impeccably clean and well-maintained rooms, and lovely bathroom. And they offered so many little indulgences to guests -- evening wine-tasting, 24-hour coffee and tea service in the sitting room, a basket of fruit in our room on arrival, cookies with turn-down service, an ambient sound machine (not that there was much street noise to mask), a nice line of toiletries, pillow menu, etc. They even called me 3 days prior to our arrival to confirm our reservation -- a considerate gesture, since they have a 3-day advance cancellation policy.

My only criticisms would be the full breakfast, which was well presented but not very good food with well-meaning but rushed and overwhelmed staff. Also, the walls seemed well insulated from sound but not the ceiling -- we could hear people walking above us pretty easily.

Traditionally I stay at more of the chain hotels; however, Hotel Drisco came highly recommended to me so therefore I booked two rooms for the president of our college and I. We were traveling on business and needed a place to meet with donors but also where we could unwind during our little free time. We checked in late and was greeted by the most friendly and helpful staff. The rooms were so clean and had all the modern amenities and more. The personal touches such as turn-down service, free bottled water, and more made the stay exceptional. In addition, the bedding was luxurious and wonderful. Although in a quiet neighborhood, it is easy to get in and out of by car, taxi, or by walking. In addition, our donors could find us easily and there were many places to sit and chat with them over coffee, tea, or wine! I plan to stay at Hotel Drisco the next time my family visits the city and certainly has become a favorite among my co-workers!

My husband, teenaged son and I stayed here in late February. Hotel Drisco is a civilized oasis in a great neighborhood away from the tourist bustle. The house has been restored and carefully maintained. Beds and linens are comfortable and simply luxurious, decor is traditional although rooms have wi-fi and flatscreen TVs. The breakfast and evening wine receptions are incomparable, and staff and employees treat guests like royalty incognito.

Room Tip: city views are magical
