From the moment we were welcomed by Emelie at the front desk we knew this was going to be a great vacation. The ambience of the Hotel Carlton is warm and welcoming. We checked in promptly and arrived at our room on the 8th floor. The room was in the more quieter section of the hotel, not facing the street. The soft towles, bath amenities and crisp linens were a welcome site after a long flight from the East coast. The hotel is conveniently located on Nob Hill allowing you to walk to many of the different venues in San Francisco. Uber is also just a phone call away. The "Happy Hour" most evenings allowed us to sit and relax enjoying the wine and music provided by Hotel Carlton. The new restaurant Phlox Commons has a great menu with lots of varieties and their bar was fully stocked including craft beers on tap. One of the nicest amenities was the helpful staff always there to answer any questions or help in any way possible. We did have the Best Vacation Ever!

Room Tip: We like the room facing away from the main street.

Three of us stayed here, me, my partner and her daughter and we couldn't fault the hotel at all. It is in a good location for walking around and exploring, the staff are very helpful and the free wine tasting and music in the hotel lobby were very good. The rooms are clean, a but small but, let's face it, you really don't spend long in them other than when sleeping.

The restaurant is newly re-opened and it is a bit hit and miss, although the bar is great, with a good beer selection and wine list. The only thing I could recommend off the menu are the flat breads and the arancine.

The hotel is clean but a little bit old, staff really nice and comprehensive, very confortable bed and rooms with a particular style. The only problems are the prices, room and breakfast or lunch very expensive.

The hotel is well located with public parking (much cheaper than vallet parking) nearby. Very nice cafes and restaurants in the area and not far walking to public transport. Room was nice and very kind staff (Charles) at reception.

My favorite SF hotel, good economical local restaurants, convenient location, reasonable price (at least for SF). I enjoyed the wine hour and chatting with fellow guests and the staff. The staff were uniformly helpful and pleasant to converse with. They also had good local restaurant recommendations!
