Reception staff were excellent- our room was upgraded and they were very friendly.
Bar was excellent- recommend the Mojitos - restaurant served good food- prices comparable to London.
Breakfast was simple but good given the price of the hotel.
Attended conference at the Moscone Centre so ideally placed between that and the bars and shops of union square.
In essence excellent value for money.

I have stayed in San Francisco countless times. I have a little group of hotels I usually rotate between but for this particular weekend the prices at my regular places seemed way too high. So I tried a new hotel based on location, price and good reviews. It was called the Crescent at the time of booking, but has now changed names.

We arrived around noon which is 3 hours before check in, but they were kind enough to give us the key early. The man at the front desk was very nice in fact.

He said he was also upgrading us to a king room on a higher floor. Since we were in SF for the Bay to Breakers race which began at 7 am and lasted till an unknown time, he also offered us late check out. He said breakfast was included even though booking.com said it was not. Unfortunately, we couldn't partake in the breakfast because we had to leave before breakfast was served.

The room decor was nice, modern. The bed was comfortable. I like that it had a mini fridge for my beverages. It was a corner room so we had windows in two directions.

However.

Our room faced the back of the hotel, which was totally fine. BUT, something was going on in the back of the hotel. I don't know if the bar had an outside patio or if it was just a bunch of people standing around in the alley for hours but we could hear LOUD talking and glasses clinking till the wee hours of the night. Then, after the bar closed and the talking quieted down, the bar poured all it's bottles into the dumpster and omg did that make a racket! I think I finally dozed off after that. What would that have been? Around 2:30 or 3? At 4:30 I was awakened by someone whooping it up. The stone buildings and the alley ways act as echo chambers. I never did get back to sleep after that. Did I mention I had to run a race at 7am? I'm not blaming the hotel for the noise at 4:30. But I do have an issue with them moving me to a room at the back of the hotel when they must be aware of the bar and bottle noise. Oh, if you do stay there and think the noise won't bother you because you'll just sleep late in the morning, forget that. The garbage trucks come at 6:15 am and dump all those bottles into their big empty trucks.
Other comments about the room, the sink area was uncomfortably small, no counter space, but not a deal breaker. Most of the bulbs were out in the really cool light fixture, there was no do not disturb sign and the cool dyson fan didn't work. None of those things would keep me from staying there again, EXCEPT the noise.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the front of the hotel

This hotel is very well located and well priced but is let down by a few small things.

This review was written a few weeks after it was changed from The Crescent to the Mystic Hotel by Charlie Palmer so the new owners may make some investments and change things.

The location is great. It is a block from Union Square and a few blocks from the BART/MUNI station so getting around is very easy.

It has a lovely interior design in white and black. There's lots of tile which adds a bit of colour. There is an interesting bar on the second floor which often has live jazz and seems to attract the cool, young, hip after work crowd.

The room was small but that's exactly what we expected. The bathroom was great and the tiled shower was a delight.

Cons:
* The towels were getting very old and had very little fluff left on them. My girlfriend found them painful to dry with.
* There could be more water pressure in the shower.
* The lift is very old and somewhat unreliable. If somebody didn't close the door (the outer doors are manual) properly then it wouldn't run.

I would still recommend this hotel to friends though.

Probably the best feature of this cosy little hotel is its superb location at an incredibly reasonable price! I just couldn't believe it! We were literally within walking distance to the hustle and bustle of Union Square and the cable cars, yet we had a fairly quiet room on one of the top floors. We booked a junior suite, which completely satisfied our needs, as it was spacious enough, had a lovely decor with those bare bricks and modern bits added, not to forget the wonderful bed it was equipped with. We hadn't expected it to be a 5-star hotel, so this budget hotel had all we had wished for. On top of all that, we were surprised to be offered to have free breakfast in their stylish
bar/buffet room! Overall a very good experience. I'd highly recommend it.

.Was not sure what to exactly expect at this reasonably priced hotel but was pleased with the find upon checking into this property a block east of Union Square and several blocks from the entrance to Chinatown. The website description and pictures of the hotel were surprisingly accurate and the front desk staff members were great, especially Tai. The property was recently renovated with a clean modern lobby, updated bathroom and the room was also quint but they made every effort to retain the hotels old charm, which you cannot really tell until you enter the hotel from the street. They also have a nice restaurant and bar on the second floor, which served an exceptional complimentary breakfast. I would definitely stay at this hotel again the next time I'm in the City, and recommend that you try it.
