Our niece had recommended this place as a hidden gem in Downtown San Francisco. We had the Granola Pancakes. They were amazing with granola, seeds, and tons of fresh fruit with a vanilla cream on top! This was a huge serving!

On Thursday we had a buddy in town for work so thought we would try out the Bay Area favorite eatery Brenda's French Soul Food.
The food rocked. Once seated they give the table a spiced black eyes pea snack. We went with the always standard of Fried Chicken with greens, and the smokey Shrimp & Grits.
To start the meal we jumped on the garlic shrimp spread. So good it was worth not being kissable for a few hours.
While stuffed, we still had to try the flight of beignets with a trio of plain, chocolate and apple. We also jumped on the special chocolate bread pudding. The food was nicely prepared, fresh and hot. Service was a bit off, but heard they were running short staff. But not being in a hurry, we weren't stressed about it. They also have a nice selection of jarred condiments and pickles for purchase. The place does get crowded and doesn't take reservations. So be prepared to wait during prime times. Don’t overlook the watermelon iced tea either. The price is pretty reasonable coming in at under $100 for three of us.

Place was very crowded but queueing didn't take too long and it was really worth it. Daily specials spicy pasta was something I could eat again or better to say that if I ever return to SF I'll do it again. Not many times I could find a better place for southern comfort food.

Be sure to walk inside and put your name on the chalkboard.
Neighbourhood though is little a sketchy.

My wife and I tired Brenda's for dinner during our visit to San Francisco. Overall it was just alright. The shrimp and grits were overly spiced that you couldn't really taste the shrimp and grits. Overall the food was just ok, not sure I would recommend them. Also it's in a sketchy area.

Get there early to avoid queue, situated in a colourful and challenging area of San Francisco once you get in your fears are immensely lifted by the buzz of the place. Service super friendly, food really interesting and well presented and reasonably priced. Would go back in a heartbeat.
