Read all the reviews. I did and so I knew what I was getting. It is an average hotel at best. No frills, a place to lay your head that isn't dangerous or necessarily dirty. Free parking was great for the rental car we had for the outside the city sites. Uber wait was never more than 5 minutes for the inside the city stuff. Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was spacious, beds were fine. We rented a fridge in our room for $5 a day which was a great money saver. Great bagel shop and pastry shop around the corner on Chestnut. Safeway and Walgreens also very close by. TV was fine, and the wifi was great too. Tons of hot water and water pressure. And the price was averaging $250 a night. These are the pluses.
The location, while convenient, it is absolutely loud. Don't think you won't notice it, or you are a heavy sleeper, it isn't just the road noise. We stayed Wed - Sun and the crowd and drunken pedestrian noise from the local restaurant and bar scene was amazingly loud. Both Friday and Saturday night my whole family, ear plugs included, were awaken in the middle of the night by yelling and fighting. The windows need to be replaced. Our AC didn't work, but it was perfect temperature outside anyway so it wasn't so hot. So the posts where people would turn on their AC to drown out the noise didn't work. I need to point out that this isn't just simple road noise, as I lay awake each night it's as if there is no dampening effect by the windows whatsoever. So anything and everything that takes place outside is audible. We were on the second floor and in the center on the Lombard Street side. Great thing is, kids don't care much. But this is why I can't rate it more than just average. The pluses and minuses equaled out our whole experience so it had to be just average.
It is a Motor Inn, so when you call down to the front desk and ask for additional pillows and blankets for your room, they say, "you bet, come on down to the front desk and we will get you squared away." But again, the staff was friendly and always greeted us with a hello.
There is a great number of restaurants on Chestnut street and plenty of shopping to do. Don't miss the Poki Bowl restaurant right across Fillmore, great food!
The Single King rooms are on the "quiet" side of the hotel, according to the staff. So if you are traveling with kids, maybe think twice about the noise factor.
