Location! Location! Location! You open the hotel's door and you can take the trolley right away. Besides the hotel is in downtown the rooms are quiet, Comfortable and clean. Staff very friendly and coffee the best in town! We will come back for sure

We stayed at the Chancellor Hotel the night before we went on a cruise. The location was great, just a block away from Union Square. The hotel is 100 years old, so the rooms are small but not too small. The bathroom was updated. The staff at the front desk was friendly. Their offsite parking was a block away.
Had a great stay.

Thank you. I think staying in our small rooms is a good warm-up for going on a cruise. I have always said that staying at the Chancellor is like being on a cruise. The rooms are small and you don't spend any time real time there since everything you want to do is out and around us.

Stayed here for 3 nights and although our expectations wernt high we were pleasantly suprised. Our room was on the 3rd floor at the front of the building so could be noisy at times and the walls we guessed were quite thin as we could here the toilet flush in the room next door. However saying that the room was bigger than expected, clean and just fine for the 2 of us. The shower was lovely, the bed was the most comfiest bed I’ve ever slept on and the pillow choice available was just insane!
The free tea, coffee and water in the lobby was a nice extra and the WiFi worked with no problems throught the hotel.
Would highly reccomended this place!

Room tip: 5 minute walk up Powell street from the Bart station and the cable car stop is pretty much outside.

Great location right on Union Square and right next to cable car line. Hotel is clean, beds are comfy and the staff are very helpful. Plenty of wardrobe and draw space, nice bathroom with good size bath. Would stay here again. Check in and check out were both easy which was great after a long day travelling.

I rarely write reviews, but this hotel was just outstanding. We cannot wait to come back. It's an older building, but it has so much charm and the amenities were great. We upgraded to a suite overlooking Union Square and it was money well spent. Truly one of our favorite places we have ever stayed.
