We booked late to go to Hawaii, as it was a last minute trip, so struggled to get a hotel within our price range at short notice. We booked at the Maui Coast due to availability and the price. The hotel itself was good value, with a comfortable room, a nice pool & easy access to the beach. The staff were very friendly and helpful, access to the free shuttle bus and bikes was really useful, as we didn't have a car. We also made use of the hotel gym which was a decent size for the hotel.
The downsides to the hotel were mainly the food in the hotel restaurant, the breakfast was poor and the evening meal was terrible. We ate out for the rest of our stay. Having said this, the food in restaurants in the immediate area to the hotel was also poor, so maybe this is what people expected from this part of the island.
We did find some restaurants with good food a 10min bike ride down the road, in the area the locals called the Triangle. This is also where the best bars were.

Nothing wrong with Kihei itself, but not a place I'd go back to, as it wasn't really the sort of place we like. We love food, and there just wasn't the variety of cuisine we liked, it also lacked a young vibe, surfer or traveller types weren't staying here - mainly older people.

Tips: Hire a car - everyone drives, so if you want to get out and about, you'll need a car. Book in advance, as they sell out in peak season.
Eat out early - for some bizarre reason alot of restaurants and bars stop serving food really early. We ended up having to eat at Dennys one night, as this was the only place open past 10pm.

I stayed here with some friends while on vacation in Maui. The service was excellent. The room was clean. My only issue with it was that they had advertised it as having two queen beds - the room we ended up in had one king sized bed and a sofa sleeper. Now, this very well may have been my fault (I could have reserved the wrong room), however the hotel did not offer us a different option. It wasn't a big deal in the end. We just took turns between the sofa (not very comfortable) and the bed (very nice) throughout our stay.
The pool was fabulous! They had a luau a few nights when we were there, with live music and very reasonably priced drinks.
The hotel itself is just across the street from the beach. It's also right by an ABC store and gas station as well. Kihei has a lot to offer in the way of activities, and the Maui Coast Hotel is within walking distance of all of them.

Aloha,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience!! I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay however wished we had an opportunity to correct your bed type requested. A room move option would have definitely been offered had we know it was an issue. My apologies once again!

I am also delighted that you enjoyed the pool area and the nightly entertainment!

Mahalo for choosing the Maui Coast Hotel and we certainly look forward to welcoming you back once again!!

Rowena Tolentino

Nice hotel for the price. We stayed for a week for our anniversary. If I had it to do again I would stay somewhere with an oceanview, it's not possible in this hotel. If value is more important than a view , this hotel would be a good option.

Aloha and Thank you for celebrating your special occassion with us! While every effort is made to meet everyone's request for a desirable view, you are indeed correct our rooms do not face towards the ocean.

Thank you for your business!

Stayed here for 3 days after long flight from London before going to Kauai.
We didn't have a car as we were only there for a short while using it to recover from jet lag.
We booked a transfer to and from the hotel with Arthur's Speedy shuttle service. There is a link to it from the hotel's own website.

This is a superbly located hotel, supermarkets were a 10-15 walk.Walks to cafes even less.
Great beaches 5 mins walk away.
Do the walk from Wailea to Kihei along the beach in the morning and evenings- it is beautiful and takes around 1hr - 1hr 30 mins.
The hotel has a few washer and drier machines on each alternate level. All you need to buy is the well priced. 75 cents detergent.
This hotel has one of the best gyms I've seen for a hotel of its size. It has a larger gym and a smaller gym.
We had looked at renting a condo in this area but soon found that this hotel was the best value for 3 days given the exorbitant one off cleaning fees that some condos wanted.
The resort fee included a free Maui local newspaper and wifi (good speed) and a shuttle within I believe a 3 miles radius.

On the minus side
1. We were on the deluxe rooms which are the smallest. Whilst the living space is fine the bathrooms are tiny. You can solve this problem by upgrading for around 30$ a day if you want something bigger.
2. There is no quiet space in the grounds to relax. The only loungers and chairs being around the rather small pool area which attracts families and hence noisy kids.
However, if you have a car and are sight seeing on the island this won't bother you as you won't be trying to relax by the pool :-).

Room Tip: We asked for a non ground floor unit.

Definitely recommending this place.

The Good:

The desk folk. All friendly and helpful all day long.
The lobby. Doesn't look like much in the pictures but is very very pleasant in person. Recommend parking at front of building and only using front elevator so that you can walk thru lobby as much as possible and also to experience views from elevator on 5th and 6th floor - basically best view from hotel.
The towels. As many and as often as you wish and you will wish for many often.
The room. Junior suite, spacious, clean, modern - hold out for 6th floor, the view is far superior, watch whales from room...
The gift shop. Open often and owned by nice lady.
The pool. Small but fun, live music (some good, some bad) adds to atmosphere as does bar, look out for happy hour and appy specials.
The bikes. Didn't use them but they looked great.
Location. Close to great beach and everything else you might want.
The laundry. Found it on the last day but wish I had found it sooner. Free except detergent so if you bring your own - totally free.
The tennis courts. Not sure if anyone uses them, but they are great.
The WIFI, for phone too - when it works...
The concierge. The one who is nice. Both have good advice.

The Bad:

The WIFI. For not working for 3 days straight and still not fixed by check-out.
The concierge. Whose attitude seemed condescending.
Spices. An exceptionally mediocre restaurant with brutally slow service, barely edible food, exceptionally high prices and very misleading signage. Just don't go there.

Overall a great stay. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: Stick to the front of the building, preferably on sixth floor for a view. Back of building is a long walk and seventh floor can require very very long waits for elevator.

Aloha and Thank you for such a detailed review!! You definitely made use of all that we had to offer and we truly appreciate every single feedback!!

I truly apologize for the challenges we were experiencing with the AT&T Wi-Fi, nonetheless all services were back up and running before we anticipated. Thank you for your understanding!

Please feel confident that I will be addressing your concerns regarding the Concierge Service and the Restaurant Serivce to the approriate companies!

Thank you again for your feedback, we truly appreciate knowing about our guest’s experiences so we can celebrate our successes and address our challenges to better serve you in the future. We look forward to your return when you are in the area again.
