I'll start with the PROs of staying in this unit:
The view from the patio (and from the couch if you left the drapes open) was just breathtaking. It was by far my most favorite part of staying here. We saw dolphins playing out in the water one day from the dining room window. The birds are amazing to watch all day long. They will come right up to the patio and eat tortilla chips out of your hand.
The location is prime. You can't really go wrong when you stay in Princeville.
The kitchen has lots of dishes and silverware.
I know some had mentioned in previous posts that the garbage diposal was not working, but it works now.
The bed was large - a king - just as described. Listening to the rain fall at night was heavenly!
The patio has two very NICE, quality lounge chairs.
There are books about Kauai on the bookshelf, along with a guest book that was quite fun to read. (Though we couldn't sign it. It was full. People have started to just write on paper and leave notes inside.)
There is also a nice radio/ound system on the bookshelf if you care to play any music.
There is an extra set of bed sheets, along with are 4 large beach towels and some beach gear in the closet. (Though we only used the beach towels since we brought our own snorkel gear.)
Parking and trash disposal was very close to the unit. The path to the beach is also very close. (About 25 feet from the patio!)
The pictures that you see onlne are basically what you get. (With a couple exceptions that I willl mention in a moment.)
And now for the CONs of staying here:
The shower was dirty. There was a little mold, some sand, and a few bugs in it. It also needs to be re-tiled badly.
The clean white table and chairs on the patio that you see in the photos? Yes, they are sitting on the patio. However, they are extremely dirty. We opted to use only the lounge chairs since the table and chairs looked so bad.
The bed is extremely firm. If your back can't handle it, this is not the unit for you! Also, when I went to change the sheets, it appeared that there was a urine stain on the mattress pad.
The TV is a tube television. Though we didn't watch it all that much, a flat screen would've been nice.
The iron and ironing board are from 1970. Possibly the 60's. The board has tears on it and smells funny - which makes your clothes smell funny if you use it. The iron has corrosion on the plug and was hard to plug in.
As mentioned by another reviewer, they don't leave you much in terms of toilet paper and trash bags. They gave us 2 rolls of toilet paper, 4 trash bags, and one very small bar of soap for the shower. Someone had left laundry detergent under the bathroom sink, but it appeared that they watered it down greatly. We just went to Foodland and bought our own detergent. (Beware of the lint catcher in the dryer. If you don't empty it after EVERY load, your items will have to be dried twice.)
It's best to leave the light off in the bedroom toward night time, as small bugs can fly through the screens. We had a few visits from them, along with a few ants. There was also a cockroach that shed his skin in the middle of the night and left it on the kitchen floor for us. Not pleasant, but we understood that it's a tropical place. Critters like that are going to appear every now and then - especially on a ground floor unit. (Which is probably why there is a can of Raid under the kitchen sink. LOL!)
OVERALL, we had a wonderful stay at Pali Ke Kua 108. This unit could be amazing with some TLC and just a little facelift. On a side note, if you're looking for activities while you're in Kauai, we highly suggest Captain Andy's Southern Star morning snorkel/BBQ lunch cruise of the Na Pali coast and also horseback riding at Silver Falls Ranch. Those two activites were the highlights of our trip! (Along with the amazing view of Pali Ke Kua 108.) Mahalo! We hope to see you again very soon, Kauai!
