Just returned from what I believe is my sixth trip to the Grand Hyatt. If you've not been to Hawaii, I can't recommend another place any more than this one. If you have children the pool(s) area - river, pool, tide pool, multiple hot tubs - is unlike any other you've experienced. Heck, forget the kids, it's great for adults. There are no swim up bars but you can walk up to food and drink in two different locations next to the water.
Advice to Hyatt: The pay/ordering process in the lower restaurant could use some work. Wait can be too long with only one cashier.
The entry way to the resort, a grand view through a landscaped, parrot filled walk-way out into the majesty of the Pacific, is one of a kind. Breathtaking.
The rooms are comfortable. The service is typically completed by early afternoon. The restaurants are plentiful but make reservations early especially if you want to sit on the - recommended - terrace area under the night sky. The health club is excellent - never had a moment when I couldn't get on the equipment and the spa is refined and comfortable. Spa pool is the ultimate get away from the main pool area.
There was no rush to claim seats during a busy week. People really didn't show up until after 9. There are a variety of pool and lagoon seating areas and one adult area. Just depends on how much company you want.
Get an ocean facing room. The hotel landscaping is absolutely the best.

Room Tip: Ocean side really very nice and rooms on the outside of the core of the hotel give you more privacy.

The Grand Hyatt in Kauai is an incredible resort and a great location in Kauai. There are many adventures worth pursuing in Kauai and incredible sites to see, but you could still have a great time and never leave the resort. The resort has one of the best pools anywhere and beautiful grounds. Terraces and the lobby are planned perfectly to give you a postcard worthy view. Even though the resort is large, it still feels relaxed. We have stayed at the resort twice and will be going back soon.

Room Tip: Upgrading to an ocean view room is a great experience, but if you need to save money the mountain vi...

I've waited a week before writing this review because I wanted it all to sink in that I am now back to reality. I live in a pretty awesome place (Napa, California), but this vacation was by far the best we have taken. The island of Kauai is like no other, very peaceful and laid back and was just what we needed. Now the resort....
From the moment we arrived, they greeted us with leis (a flower one for me and a black shell lei for my husband!) we were treated like royalty! Everyone on the staff here really enjoys their job and greets you everytime they see you with an "Aloha" and smiles. I booked this vacation through BookIt.com and was totally impressed. Put in a few recommendations and they honored all of them which was also awesome. This resort is first class all the way, from the lobby to the rooms to the pools, which are so amazing the way they are laid out on property. We spent most of our days in the adult pool, as I work with children all day long and wanted the peace, but anywhere you went, it felt as though it was never crowded, in any of the areas. We attended the amazing luau on Thursday and were impressed by how great the service and the show was performed! Limitless drinks and food and all was really good! We walked every morning with the hostess from the spa and it was beautiful on the route we took along the ocean! I can't say enough about this place, and it's all good. We can't wait to go back next year!
A special thanks to Joshua, for making us feel so welcome!

We have stayed at other large(r) resorts in the Carribbean before and have not experienced the personal service they offer at the Hyatt. They go out of their way to call you by name and everyone is very pleasant. We booked the Sunshine on Sale package, 5th night free and free breakfast each day, we stayed 10 nights. Also had a bunch of Hyatt gift cards to use.
We checked in around 4pm on a Thurs, were upgraded to an Ocean View (maybe partial not sure) due to Hyatt points, room 1041. It was on the ground floor of the Poipu wing. We liked the fact that our lanai was right where the luau is held each Thurs & Sun. We actually got to watch the whole thing our first night and decided to cancel our reservations for it later in our stay. It was amusing, although we obviously did not get to eat the food.
The resort got busier thru our stay but never felt packed, it was still pretty easy to get poolside chairs. We had breakfast at Illima Terrace most days, fantastic although I would not pay $30 out of pocket every day for this. Breakfast at the Clubhouse was good and a little better priced. We had dinner at Yum Cha-just ok, Stevenson's Library-good sushi but WAAAY overpriced, and Tidepools-not quite as good as Merrimans and just as much money. Lunch from The Dock a few times-pretty good, a little pricey but very convenient for down days at the pool. We only bought a few drinks from their bars, mostly had wine and beer on our own lanai to save some money.
Parking was convenient, valets will give you water and towels when you leave each morning. We did a couple massage at the spa, outdoor Hale was beautiful although I heard sirens from the street during my massage! The spa pool is very quiet, the locker rooms were not quite as luxurious as I had expected for the price and reviews of Anara Spa.
I know people say it's a big resort and there is a lot of walking but it didn't bother us at all. I do agree that the rooms are nice but pretty average especially for the price.
Overall, we would definitely go back, we liked the location for our day trips to the north and west shores. Nice that most of the Poipu restaurants are close (Roy's, Planatation Gardens etc) but you really need a good deal, points or gift cards to afford this for a long stay.
