Owner description: NTBG’s Allerton Garden Garden is located on the south shore of Kauai in the picturesque Lawai Valley. Tours run daily and include a ride from the Visitors Center in Poipu along a scenic coastal route and continue along the valley rim on a former sugarcane train railbed. Visitors disembark on the valley floor to explore this former private estate, named by National Geographic Traveler magazine as one of the 50 places to see in a lifetime. Plants form the walls of outdoor rooms, the canopy of trees the ceiling. Housed within are elegant statuary and water features. A popular spot for photos is the ‘Jurassic trees’, with their massive curving roots.National Tropical Botanical Garden is a nonprofit institution, dedicated to saving and studying tropical plants.

We were pleasantly surprised at the beauty bestowed on a tropical space by one man's vision. Iconic "rooms" and several we'll know movie scenes.

We did the combined McBryde/Allerton tour. Our tour guide Loryen was great. One warning- get the insect repellent! Our tour started with the McBryde nursery and gardens. Excellent work being done to save endangered Hawaiian plants. We then went to the Allerton gardens. Beautiful statuary and water features.

Knowledgeable guides. Walkable area but also offers a golf cart for those that need it. A quiet and shady trip.

Our tour guide Paul, was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The layout of the gardens was interesting with a tale from each "room". Knowledge of the flora and medicinal usages was informative. Stories of the many films scenes shot there was fun. I highly recommend this visit while on Kauai.

My family and I did the sunset tour, which included a dinner at the famous Allerton house near the beach. It was a great way to see the gardens as the sun was beginning to set. The garden rooms are beautiful and the guides are so l knowledgable. The drive alone to the gardens offers spectacular views. The evening caps off with a dinner at the Allerton home where you are free to wander around the house and out to the secluded beach. A very lovely evening.
