The beach was fantastic. They had activities for everyone. A catamaran was moored just off shore.
The infiniti pool was heated . They had another pool with a waterfall and waterside which was cooler and quite refreshing. A sand bottom pool for the little ones. The one complaint was the upkeep of the rooms, the stairwells, and pool restrooms. A little paint and soap and water would have gone a long long way.
They mixed up our reservation and were told what we requested wasn't available. Luckily, I had written down the name of the person I spoke to and low and behold what we had requested became available. They made us happy which is all that counts .
The food was on the pricey side but very good.
The staff was very friendly and remembered our name and we were only there for 2 nights.
The bed was very comfortable and we were able to control the air-conditioning which was a plus for us.

We stayed 3 nights in top-floor oceanfront adjoining and interconnected rooms from Dec 10-13. Facilities were comfortable and clean and on those dates the resort was very quiet and uncrowded. The weather was fine and hot without being too humid. We had booked a double room adjoining a king-bed room with a roll-away bed. All beds were comfortable, except the roll-away. The hotel decor felt like an early ‘80’s US mainland city hotel.

Facilities :
The resort sits behind some historic fish ponds behind a beach. The visibility for snorkeling at the beach was less than 1.5 metres (4’), so we gave up. The “Ocean Sports” club can hire out equipment like water bikes and paddle boards with a multi-hour “try-them-all” deal available – check times this is applicable.

The pools are clean and it was a treat to be able to order a cocktail and have it served to you whilst standing in the pool! There is also a short, supervised waterslide the teenage kids enjoyed.

Restaurants :
We ate breakfasts at the “Hawaii Calls” restaurant and the buffet was fresh, with good variety, available early (for the 7:00am tour start we had one morning) and depending on whether you ate continental buffet or hot breakfast, it was cost-effective. Wait staff were attentive and most polite. The same restaurant proved to be a terrific venue for dinner. After the disaster of the off-site restaurant, we enjoyed one special evening with unlimited fresh cracked crab and prime rib for a set price. Needless to say, this was fabulous and the multiple crabs consumed were very fresh. On the other night at the restaurant the menu was sufficiently varied and food of good quality although at a price.

Location :
Marriott is over the road from a sizeable shopping mall (“King’s Shopping Centre”) with a large variety of shops and a number of restaurants. If you eat at shopping mall restaurants, choose carefully. We were disappointed by one: “Three Fat Pigs” and found that the hotel restaurants were better quality food, better service and in the end, value for money.

There is also a very interesting worn-out signed historic walk near the resort through a lava field filled with multi-century old petroglyphs. This was a great stroll in the cool of evening before the light faded.

Room Tip: top floors with ocean front have views over pool and palms to heritage fish ponds and ocean beyond

We stayed at this Marriott over Christmas 2014 and this was our second stay, having been here about 5 years ago. Rooms are an average size and nicely decorated/comfortable. We stayed 4 nights in a mountainview room, with a private balcony. Our views were beautiful.

This hotel is located on one of the nicest beaches on the Big Island; beautiful white sand, and shallow enough to swim comfortably. The hotel has several swimming pools, and a very nice/large fitness center.

Only a few Downsides for this property... the spa has limited amenities, and there is only one restaurant. Pool chairs were hard to come by, to spite there being plenty of space to add more chairs - they were all "gone" typically by 9am. On the plus side, plenty of chairs on the beach.

Service was incredibly good in almost every respect. We ate at the restaurant for lunch on several occasions, and dinner once. Each and every time it was good, with one exception when they were understaffed.

The hotel location is great - you can walk to over a dozen nearby restaurants, including one on the beach. Shopping is also nearby as are a variety of walking trails.

Hotel rates are affordable in general... a bit high over the holidays, but typically this hotel is a very good value.

I spent a wk reviewing hotels and it came down to this Marriott and the Hilton.
I made the right choice for our needs to stay at the Marriott.
This hotel has a nice beach. The pool area was clean and there were shaded areas.
Our room was adequate, yes it needed a thorough cleaning in the corners, but overall ok.
The hallways needed new floor covering.
There was a large TV, a safe and a small fridge. The views of the pool and ocean were lovely.
There were many opinions for restaurants and groceries within walking distance.
Lava lava, and Tommy Bahamas were our favourites.
There are many areas to walk and run Around this hotel.

Room Tip: Spend the $$$ for an ocean view or ocean front room.

Awesome weekend getaway for some rest and relaxation. Great staff, comfortable rooms, perfect for what we wanted for our stay-cation.

We spent a few days trying to decide where to go for the weekend. Should we go to the west coast? Too cold. Mexico? Nothing looked interesting. New Zealand was a contender, but the we couldn't pick between the north or south island. After combing the internet for destinations and deals, we decided just to stay home in Hawaii and relax. A short morning flight over from Oahu, hopped in our convertible and started our weekend getaway. No phones, nobody knows we're here...perfect!

After heading up to the Kohala Coast for lunch and a scenic drive, we checked into the resort back down the coast in Waikoloa. The check in was seamless and thorough. Staff was so nice and definitely embodied the aloha spirit. Our only request was a quiet room, away from groups, kids, pools, etc. The hotel delivered perfectly with an ocean view room in the Ka'ahumanu Tower (south), high floor, set over a sweeping lawn that leads to the lagoons. The room was a standard sized room with a king bed, adequate sized lanai, oversized television, miniature refrigerator, coffee maker, etc. Not a suite to get lost in, but perfect for the two of us to sleep, enjoy coffee in the morning and champagne watching the sunset. Other than that, there is no reason to be in the room...hello...it's Hawaii! Stop complaining about the room size (previous reviewer) and get out and enjoy the scenery.

Moments after check in, a plate of 7 huge, chocolate dipped strawberries was delivered along with a bottle of bubbly for our anniversary. Nice touch front desk staff! Being a Marriott Rewards Platinum Member, they also gave us a few waters at check in, a box of local chocolates and told us to enjoy a drink at the bar with their compliments. Again, nice way to take care of your elite guests.

The property is nice and spread out, with walking paths, lagoons, a nice expanse of beach and a few pools to relax around. The pools weren't crowded like previous reviewers mentioned and there was no "chair hogging" at 6:00am. Always had chairs available to enjoy a nice relaxing pool area. I think maybe we lucked out with the clientele (which is always a gamble), but the few children we encountered were very well behaved and most adults were there to relax as well. I didn't notice, as one previous guest mentioned, "fatties with nachos" grazing around the pool. The one "sign of the times" was that everyone was on their phones. Nobody can seem to unplug these days. There is something to be said for shutting the phone off and leaving it in your room. No distractions. No checking Facebook to see what Antie Jane had for breakfast, no "liking" the Instagram post from 3 seconds ago. RELAX people! Isn't that why you went on vacation to begin with?

As far as the internet being slow or intermittent, see above. Get off your phone and enjoy the beauty around you. You could have stayed at home for free and stared longingly into your iPhone.

The only drawback to the hotel was lack of dining options, but we found plenty in the area to satisfy any craving.

We will definitely be back soon for another long weekend escape.
