My husbandand I just soent the best 9days in this cottage. The property was fabulous! Everything we needed to cook meals, beach gear, towels, even some cooking basics(which we happily added to). It was clean and the air conditioning was an excellent addition. We sat in the covered lanai every morning and had local coffee to watch the sunrise. The birds and other wildlife(chickens, roosters, cats, geckos, chameleons, and a wild pig) were all part of the experience! Great local places in Pahoa...The Tin Shack Bakery was awesome. Great coffee and organic food. If you are wondering about all the news hype on the volcano eruption, and trying to decide to book that trip or not...this place was well out of the way of any lava flow or ash. We stayed the whole first week Pele was working her way to the ocean. It was fine at this property. BOOK IT!!!! You wont regret it! Mahalo Mike and Rute for such a great place to stay.
We spent two nights at The Royal Palm Acres. It was a quiet getaway and not far from the areas we wanted to explore; Volcano National Park, Tide pools and parks near Hilo. We were especially grateful for the laundry room to refresh our clothes in the middle of our vacation. The wonderful fruit trees provided us with good snacks during our outings! I would recommend arriving during daylight. The dark country road was a little intimidating for us but we made it with our trusty Google navigation. We still had good cell phone signal. The property had all the amenities one would need and gear for outdoor activities was a bonus.
