We drove by the park for almost a week and had all but decided to skip it before finding an hour of free time on our last day in Hawaii. We are so glad we did. The park is beautiful, with unique trees and wildlife, along with the ponds and statues. Take the time to stroll through the garden and experience the peace and beauty of Hawaii.

This was right by our hotel or I probably wouldn't have known about. It's a nice, fairly large park. It has very beautiful plants and some Japanese structures. I wouldn't go out of the way to see it, but if you're near Hilo Bay, stop and take a quiet stroll.

I am sure these gardens change seasonally. While we were there, there were not many flowers out, and it sort of feels like a sparse city park. However, as you wind your way through the park, over the arched bridges and past numerous Japanese statues, you begin to truly feel a sense of calm, which is pretty much what the park was designed to do in following traditional Japanese gardening techniques. Definitely worth a stroll through - and would certainly be a great place to enjoy a picnic lunch either from the Farmer's Market or Suisan.

This is a water front garden along Hilo bay with Japanese elements amid the giant old Banyan trees. If you are lucky snow capped Mauna Kea is in view.

We accidentally came upon these gardens, and were so pleasantly surprised! The grounds were very well kept, and so serene. We spent the better half of an hour just strolling through!
