I am so happy to have found this place. I was undecided between here & 1 other place and called them both to ask a few questions. After speaking with Barry, I was sold on the place and we weren't disappointed. It was clean & had everything we needed. There were a few things that needed fixing & were dealt with immediately and satisfactorily (even changing the TV!) it was great to talk to Barry or another staff member about each day's adventures. It felt like coming home each day after a tiring day of hiking and exploring. Would definitely return.

We chose the Elk Refuge Inn based on price and location. After staying three nights at the Inn we are convinced we made a very good choice.

Elk Refuge Inn is located north of Jackson. Since our plan was to spend most of our time in Grand Tetons Park this was an excellent location to use as our base. (We actually drove into Jackson only once during our stay)

No elevator (or stairs) are needed for this two story Inn. Those guest who stay in the first floor, park in front of the hotel and have direct access to their rooms. Our room was on the second floor which meant we drove up a small hill and parked in the back of the hotel and we had direct access to our room.

We found the staff to be very helpful. We sought their assistance three times during our stay. We asked about Jackson’s “Wild West Days” which were going on during our stay. The staff quickly printed out an itinerary of the event. We asked about laundering services. While the Inn does not have washers or dryers on the premise a quick map was provided to a nearby laundromat. I asked for the location of the ice machine. (The Inn does not have an ice machine, but the staff member took my ice tub and a few minutes later she was at our door with a tub of ice). All of the request were completed with a smile.

Our room was always clean by the time we returned from the park.

Free WI-FI with a good signal was available in our room.

A gas station is located adjacent to the hotel.

Note – As the name imply the Elk Refuge Inn is located next to the Elk Refuge. The elk come down from the high country in the winter and congregate in the Elk Refuge. Do not expect to see elk here in the spring, summer of fall.

Our ‘spur of the moment’ whirlwind trip to Yellowstone had specific goals …find value and quality in overnight stays at 9 places in 3100 miles. A few miles south of the major attractions in the Grand Tetons before you hit Jackson Hole is the Elk Inn right on Highway 89. The owners of the motel are doing a major upgrade here inside and out. Rooms were clean and very nicely upgraded. Our best night of sleep so far on this trip. Don’t overlook this place…the price was very right with full kitchenettes, reefer, microwave, flat panel TV’s, satellite cable and Wi-Fi. Gas, Food and Sundry next door along with plenty of restaurants nearby. Every room has a great view. Fast and early check-in…fast check-out at 10 am. ‘A+’

Grand Tetons to Custer Park, Mount Rushmore Area.

If you’re planning a whirlwind trip from Yellowstone to Mount Rushmore…take the road least taken…Highway 26 to 20 to 16 East. You won’t be disappointed. Some of the most breathtaking mountain scenery was found along this shortcut saving a couple hundred miles for us. ‘A+’ for roads and scenery.

Room Tip: Upper rooms have balcony overlooking Elk Refuge and a mountain out back.

We had an awesome stay at Elk Refuge Inn. Very clean and newly remodeled. Our room even had a little kitchenette. Beautiful view of the Elk Refuge. Great price for the area and only 3 min from Jackson Hole downtown! Wonderful staff! Hope to come back soon!

My GF and I recently stopped in during the off-season at Grand Tetons for a 2-night stay at the Elk Refuge Inn and were very satisfied.
All of the rooms have been very recently updated and are clean, comfortable, and well-appointed. Nice big bathrooms, kitchens for light cooking, and a nice bedroom area.
The service staff was SOOOO friendly. Jordan was a delight, regaling us with hilarious stories and giving us insider tips on the things to do in town. Worth the visit just to meet him.
The location of the Inn is perfect. 2-minute drive from Jackson Hole, 5-minute drive from Grand Tetons, and with a little country store within walking distance.
Great value - Elk Refuge Inn is a must-stay if you're in the area on a budget.
